The Sisterhood of the Sisters of Battle, aka Adepta Sororitas or as Daughters of the Emperor, is the mailed fist of the Ecclesiarchy. The Decree Passive rules that the Ecclesiarchy cannot field any Men under arms. The Sisters, being all women, are exempt from this decree.

Founding
During the turbulent 36th millennium the Daughters of the Emperor were a only a very small religious sect of women located on the planet San Leor who believed that they could better serve and worship the Emperor through inner purity and martial strength. They were deceived and recruited by Goge Vandire, and further trained and equipped to the highest possible standard to serve as his bodyguards. As Vandire began to abuse more and more his extraordinary powers the Daughters were also renamed as Brides of the Emperor.

This did not go without suspicion, and the enemies of Vandire rose up against him. A large war was fought and the Brides proved to be a strong bodyguard that protected Vandire's Palace against all assaults. During the Siege of the Ecclesiarchal Palace, the Adeptus Custodes risked their lives in a last ditch effort to sneak through the palance and approach the Brides. They hoped to convince them of Vandire's treachery. Words were not enough, so the Custodes took Alicia Dominica, leader of the Brides, and her chosen bodyguards deep into the Imperial Palace where they stood before the Emperor himself. What happened there remains unknown - Dominica and her companions were sworn to secrecy - but it became clear that the Brides, who reverted to the title of Daughters of the Emperor, had been awakened to the evil that Vandire represented.

Following this revelation they reclaimed their old name Daughters of the Emperor and their leader, Alicia Dominica, executed the insane traitor, ending thereby his destructive Reign of Blood. The High Lords of Terra met and determined that a new leader should be picked for the Ecclesiarchy, one that would serve the Imperium but also be controlled. Sebastian Thor, an early denouncer of Goge Vandire, was the perfect choice. He was forced into the position.

The new Ecclesiarch Sebastian Thor proceeded with the Reformation of the Ecclesiarchy who was also forbidden, by the Decree passive of the High Lords of Terra, to keep any Men under arms. He therefore kept the Daughters, who were technically excluded from this ruling, re-naming them as Adepta Sororitas.

When Thor first took over, there were only 4,000 Daughters of the Emperor, but this quickly expanded to over 10,000 after the Adepta Sororitas (Sisters of Battle) was founded. It was his successor, Alexis the XII, who divided the Sisters into two home worlds and four Orders Militant lead by Alicia Dominica and three of her companions who wanted to lead their brethern into battle. The last two major Orders Militant were created two and a half Millenia later in honor of the last of Alicia Dominica's companions. Their Orders were later expanded to hold more than 15,000 Sisters, but their current standing places each Order with no more than 7,000 members.

In the beginning, there were only four Orders Militant created by Sister Alicia Dominica and her three fellow Crusading Sisters: Sister Silvana, Sister Lucia, and Sister Katherine. They are:
* Order of Our Martyred Lady (Sister Katherine, Formerly Order of the Fiery Heart)
* Order of the Valorous Heart (Sister Lucia)
* Order of the Ebon Chalice (Sister Alicia Dominica)
* Order of the Argent Shroud (Sister Silvana)

Then mid 38th Millenium, two Orders were added by Ecclesiarch Deacis VI. The Order of the Bloody Rose was created to honor Sister Mina and the Order of the Sacred Rose was created to honor Sister Arabella. Although neither Sister Mina or Sister Arabella lead their fellow Sisters into battle, they were martyred just the same and honored as such.

In the 41st millenium, the Adepta Sororitas is a part of the Ecclesiarchy and is divided into two Convents. The Convent Sanctorum located on Terra, and the Convent Prioris based on Ophelia VII.

Types of Orders
The Sisterhood is further organized among several Orders. The famous Orders Militant follow the ways of war. Other orders do not follow this way per se and rather follow the ways of Study.

*Orders Hospitaller: aid the poor, and heal the sick and the wounded in many hospitals and clinics of the Sisterhood. Some of their hospitals are part of Imperial crusades.
*Orders Dialogus: help to translate the innumerable dialects and slangs used throughout the Imperium. At the behest of the Inquisition and certain parties they also study Xeno languages , also translating texts obtained from Xeno artifacts.
*Orders Famulous: organize and maintain households of certain Imperial governors and Imperial nobles, serving as advisers and by their very presence reminding them of their higher loyalties. They oppose any disloyalty with the support of faithful followers from the inside of the household itself.

Besides these famous major Orders there is also an unknown number of minor Orders whose functions are widely unknown. We know of the Order of the Eternal Gate whose responsibility is the retrieval of relics and artifacts for the Ecclesiarchy. Also known is the Order of the White Rose whose main task is unknown. This order split away from the Order of the Sacred Rose in the latter part of M39.

Structure
Each Order follows the same basic heirarchical structure:

*Order: Led by the head Canoness called the Canoness Superior and runs the Entire Order.
*Preceptory: An organization of individual convents with up to 1,000 Sisters, equivalent to an Adeptus Astartes Chapter, lead by a Canoness Preceptor.
*Commandery: Normally smaller convents or detachments of militant Sisters with up to 200 Sisters, led by a Canoness Commander.
*Mission: The smallest organization of Sisters, consisting of a few units and can be lead by a Canoness or the lesser Palatine.

Members
Ranks
Individual members ranks can vary in requirement and duties, but they follow the same basic heirarchy:

*Prioress: two of them administrate the two convents.
*Canoness; who leads the individual order.
*Veteran Sister Superior: who command a single Veteran Seraphim squad.
*Sister Superior: who lead a single squad of Seraphim or a squad of Battle Sisters into battle.
*Veteran Seraphim:
*Seraphim: only the very best Battle Sisters are able to join this elite. Seraphim receive special training and equipment.
*Battle Sister: The basic rank of Adepta Sororitas.

Appearance
Along with physical changes, each order has its own specific color scheme and symbols:

* Order of Our Martyred Lady wears black armor and black cloth with red lining and red weapons.
* Order of the Valorous Heart wears black armor and black cloth with white lining and black weapons.
* Order of the Ebon Chalice wears black armor and white cloth with red lining and red weapons.
* Order of the Argent Shroud wears silver armor and white cloth with red lining and red weapons.
* Order of the Bloody Rose wears red armor and black cloth with white lining and black weapons.
* Order of the Sacred Rose wears white armor and black cloth with red lining and red weapons.

Equipment
Adepta Sororitas Armoury
The Adepta Sororitas make heavy use of Flame Weapons as they see them as a way to cleanse the soul before total death. Though they are not genetically enhanced like Space Marines, they also wear Power Armour and have the same general unit set-up, although they tend to prefer heat and flame based weapons, for the 'purifying' effect of fire. They also gain very strong faith-based powers to help them in their struggle against their foes.
The Founders
There are six original heads of the Sisters of Battle and a there is a major Order for each.

* Alicia Dominica: It was under her command that the Sororitas was formed as a Chamber Militant and later joined with the Witch Hunters. She, along with her loyal Sisters were named Living Saints.
*Katherine: She was martyred by a cult of heretics, her order was renamed as the Order of Our Martyred Lady due the deep mourning of her fellow Sisters.
*Silvana: She was the leader of the Order of the Argent Shroud. She was one of the first Sisters to lead crusades in the name of the Emperor. Her death came at the hand of an assassin, but her body mysteriously vanished.
*Mina: She was murdered by a blood cult, whose agents had attacked her while praying. Her body was found along with the shrine, covered in the blood and the corpses of twenty of her attackers. Her symbol, the red rose, represents her strong character and her final death. Thus, the Order of the Bloody Rose was created to honor her spirit and her martyrdom.
*Lucia: She lead the Order of the Valorous Heart. She was the youngest of Alicia Dominica's companion. She was martyred after her capture by a cult that tortured her before her death. Without Lucia's knowledge, a group of her fellow sisters were also captured, but not one of them gave into the pain. Their silence, along with Lucia's, who was under the greatest torture, gave the order their name.
*Arabella: She was Martyred and the Order of the Sacred Rose was made in her honor.

Others
*Seraphim Ephrael Stern, current location unknown
*Saint Celestine, KIA

Current Status
Some Orders have been "borrowed" to the Ordo Hereticus of the Inquisition. Their main task to hunt down and destroy heretics and unsanctioned "rogue" psykers. This task is approved by the Ecclesiarchy, who itself often begins purges of heretics, mutants, and psykers. The part of the Ordo Hereticus which physically deals with such problems is known as the Witch Hunters.

Battle for Armageddon
A few of the Orders fought at the Third Armageddon War, but it was the Order of our Martyred Lady who largely represented the Sisters of Battle in the Armageddon sector. It was they who were the sole protectors of the Ecclesiarchy and the faithful of Hive Tempestora during the Third Armageddon War. Their base of operations was the Sanctorum of St. Katherine in Hive Tempestora, which became the centre for Ecclesiarchal activities on Armageddon and thus, refuge of the faithful from invaders
.

Hive Tempestora was assaulted during the Third Armageddon war by a surprise assault of Orks emerging from the Boiling Sea. The Sisters were the defence for Hive Tempestora, but the surprise and size of the Ork attack, caught the Imperial forces unawares. This allowed the Orks to quickly steal control from the Sisters.

The Sisters were forced further into tunnels of the Hive with each attack by the Orks. When the Orks reached the heart of the Hive, the Imperial command structure began to break down as the hordes rapidly pushed on. Several units were dispatched to defend area which had already been overrun but the few Hive militia they could rally proved to be ineffective against the Orks. They fought a losing battle until they were eventually forced against the great armoured doors of the Sanctorum.

Here, the Sisters could not retreat any further and it was their duty to defend their sanctuary with their lives. The Order rallied against the Orks and called for every member of the Ecclesiarchy to fight and die in defence of Armageddon's most holy site. It was a battle of attrition and with the sheer weight of numbers the Orks gradually overwhelmed the Sisters. It was a charge by Warboss Nargrim and his elite Nobz that caused the Sister's line to crumble. The lines of Sisters, broken and scattered, attempted to form up again but were readily cut down by the huge tide of Orks. After just hours since the initial invasion by the Orks, no human was left alive inside Hive Tempestora and corpses stained the sacred ground.

With the massive destruction at Tempestora, reminiscent of the Tyranid's destruction of the Ultramarines at Ultramar, the Order of Our Martyred Lady was devastated and left with less than three companies upon Armageddon. The loss of Tempestora's Sanctorum devastated the morale of the Sisterhood and fought to recover from such a dishonor. Though they lost greatly at the beginning of the campaign, their aid was essential in the final defense of the planet.

On the otherside of Armageddon, the Order of the Argent Shroud, with its five companies under the leadership of Canoness Carmina, were used by General Kurov in the Fire Deserts during the war. They later joined with their fellow Sisters retake the Holy Sanctorum and restore their lost honor.

Problems with Canon
The following statement comes from the Codex: Sisters of Battle 2 edition: "A sign of the Sisters strength is the fact that in their entire history only a single sister, Miriael Sabathiel, has fallen to the lure of Chaos. How Miriael fell is unknown, only that she was turned from the Emperor's light to Slaanesh worship, and now serves as one of the prince of chaos' greatest warriors."

However this is clearly contradicted by the Graphic novel Daemonifuge in which a Sister was seduced by a Navigator (who had been corrupted by a daemonic servant of Slaanesh) and several Sisters were completly corrupted by a Keeper of Secrets, a greater Daemon of Slaanesh. It is quite hard to believe that only a single Sister fell to the corruption of Chaos during all these thousands of years, but possible nevertheless.
Background and Rivalries
Slaanesh is the Chaos god of lust, excess, pleasure, perfection and hedonism. Slaanesh typically appears in a form which is a woman on the right side and a man on the left with two sets of devilish horns growing from its head. It can however assume any form; male, female, hermaphrodite or asexual, but prefers male bodies. Its sacred number is six. It is known also as the Prince of Chaos, Prince of Excess or Prince of Pleasure.

The name Slaanesh is a corruption of the Chaos term Slaaneth (Slaa meaning "ecstasy" or "pleasure" and Neth meaning "lord" or "prince"; hence, the Prince of Pleasure). It was born during the time the Eldar call The Fall from their own decadence echoed in the Warp. The birthcry of Slaanesh created the Eye of Terror and slew most of the Eldar (and their gods except for Khaine who was dispersed into many pieces and the Laughing God- Cerogach) except those far enough away from the Eldar homeworlds to escape.

The symbol of Slaanesh combines the conventional symbols for male and female, although it is seldom worn openly by his followers. In its place they often wear items of jewellry bearing erotic motifs. Followers dress in robes which are often opened to leave the right side of the chest uncovered, a requirement of many of the rituals involved in his worship. Pastel and electric shades are the chief colours, although white is often used as well. These colours are also sometimes carried over into everyday wear, although they may be modified to fit in with current fashions. Regardless of any considerations, all Slaanesh followers wear garb of sensuously high quality.

Slaanesh has a neutral attitude to many of the gods of Chaos, and is generally too caught up in his own pleasures to be interested in alliances and co-operation. Particular enemies are the followers of Khorne, whose belief in pain and death is completely opposed to Slaanesh's principle of a life of unrestricted pleasure. Followers of Nurgle and Tzeentch are subject to Slaanesh's usual neutral attitude.

Followers of Slaanesh
Slaanesh is served primarily by the Emperor's Children Chaos Space Marines, hedonistic psychopaths who wield unique sonic weaponry in battle. They, like other Chaos Space Marines, fled to the Eye of Terror after the death of Horus at the hands of the Emperor.

Also the renegade chapter Violators have dedicated themselves to the prince of excess.

Daemons of Slaanesh
The Greater Daemon of Slaanesh is the Keeper of Secrets, a huge and indescribable creatures whose very presence is capable of bringing the bravest warrior to his knees in anguish and ecstasy.

The main Daemons of Slaanesh are the Daemonettes, feminine creatures whose seductive bodies are at contrast with their grotesque claws and lightning speed. Daemonettes can also ride steeds, lurid snakelike creatures who lash with their prehensile tongues.

Cortez was a captain of the Crimson Fists fourth company, known for his pride, stubborness and for being impossible to kill. It is said that only two bones in his entire body hadn't been broken one or more times. Cortez went missing in action after a battle with Eldar raiders, and nothing is known of his whereabouts as of late M41. His old friend and brother marine, Pedro Kantor remains convinced that Cortez is still alive.

Notable battles
* M40.853 - The Battle of Steel Cross: Slew an Ork warboss and his entire retinue. Most noted for disarmning the warboss by getting the orc sword stuck in his ribcage.
* M40.867 - Attacking Eldar positions despite heavy fire, and suffered 17 wounds.
* M40.892 - Defended a breach in the Fortress Maladon for 21 hours of constant fighting.
* M40.903 - Fights the entire Kardian six week campaign without supplies, an amazing feat.

Rules and miniature
Captain Cortez was a special character in the 3rd. edition Codex: Space Marines, with a statline identical to a regular captain and an invulnerable save instead of an armor save. He also had the ability to automacially pass the first failed leadership roll in any battle.

Games Workshop released a Captain Cortez miniature in late 2003, considered by many to be one of the worst miniatures produced in later years. Some claim this is undeserved, and that the miniature was compared by fans to the highly popular third version of the Emperor's Champion released and featured the same month. Most polls on popular Warhammer 40k forums seem to support that the miniature is poor, though.
Dalenhttps://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Captain_Cortez&diff=4748Captain Cortez2005-10-23T21:39:07Z
Dalen: Captain Cortez moved to Cortez

The Astral Claws were a Space Marine chapter until the Badab War of the early 900s.M41

Its leader, Lufgt Huron ordered the Astral Claws to destroy an Imperial Investigation Fleet which had come to find out why the chapter had not sent its usual 5% tithe of gene-seed and how they had got themselves into such a huge debt in planetary tithes.

The Astral Claws were then joined by the Executioners, Lamenters and Mantis Warriors. Eventually, the weight of the Imperium crushed the rebels and Badab was liberated.

The Astral Claws are said to have left the planet during the blockade and fled to the Maelstrom where they became the Red Corsair pirates. They took the broken body of their master with them, and he is said to lead them in raids on the Imperium, although he is more machine than man now.

A Bone 'ead is a part of the Imperial Guard forces. It is effectivly an Ogryn sergeant which has been genetically modified by the Schola Progenium to give heightened senses and greater awareness of its surroundings. It also increases the Ogryn's ability to command other Ogryns and gives them a modicum of tactical ability. The most advanced are even able to spell their own names or count.

These are often found at the head of an Ogryn unit, spurring on the other members to great feats of strength, and to show off to others. Nork Deddog may be one of the first, and most successful, genetically modified Ogryns.

Nork Deddog is an Ogryn in the Imperial Guard possessing enhanced brain power and strength coupled with the loyalty of a Commissar. He was selected by the Schola Progenium at a young age due to his ability to write his name, count and even speak fluently, this being a rare (if not one off) occasion in Ogryn development. He was taken out of the normal stream of warfare and underwent artificial mental enhancement (possibly the same process used in the creation of bone 'eads) and training within a special unit.

He was then assigned to the 2nd Catachan under Colonel Greiss, fighting on Balur. He was quickly taken as the Colonel's bodyguard, and the site of the two together became more frequent for the four years the wars lasted. Often they were seen together on the battlefield with Greiss bawling orders and explosive shells bouncing off Nork's dense skull. It is known he has saved the Colonel's life on many occasions, including carrying his wounded body from a disaster at Breakback Hill. Also, he has sufficient strength to move a Chimera twenty yards down a road, just to get to the medi-pack.

He is fiercly loyal and will switch positions with the commanding officer to take the brunt of any attack. He also possesses superior statistics, as well as a better save and leadership skills. In game he must be assigned to the highest ranking officer in the army.

Vio'la orbits a binary star and translates as 'hot blooded'.

This is a notorious Fire cast world whose warriors are especially aggressive and skilled in the arts of death.

The oldest and most respected of the Fire cast academies was founded here many centuries ago.

The sept of Vio'la is usually painted with hot colours like red and orange and usually have many firewarriors and battlesuits.

Vio'la is one of the major septs and is a first phase colonie and it's neibours are Sa'cea, Arthas Moloch and Tau'n.

The surface of Vior'la is hot and dry, even for a Tau world and Tau from Vio'la tend to have darker skin pigmentation than most. The planet orbits a binary star, and as a consequence it swelters in a virtual constant summer. The majority of the planet's surface is dry and inhospitable; dusty red plains cover millions of square miles and parched deserts circle the equator. In both hemispheres, mountain ranges stretch thousands of miles and seem to scrape the stars themselves, lending credence to the theory that much of Vio'la's surface was once under water and some catastrophe in ancient times caused the seas to dry up, leaving Vior'la the arid place it is today.

While there is no empirical evidence to support this, Air caste stellar cartographers have noted an apparent discrepancy between the ages of formation of Vio'la's binary stars. The larger star appears to be much younger than the smaller; a fact that none of the Earth caste astrophysicists can yet explain, though its unexplained birth may have been the cause of the scouring of Vio'la's oceans. Vio'la moves in a short elliptical orbit around its stars and once every six Tau'cyr its trajectory passes between the two stars. [A Tau'cyr is the annual cycle of the Tau home world, made up of six Kai'rotaa. Each Kai'rotaa is dedicated to a particular caste, with the sixth dedicated to the race as a whole.]

This time is known as the Trial by Fire and lasts for exactly five Kai'rotaa (roughly two hundred and fifty Terran days). During this time, Vio'la passes relatively close to the largest star and powerful waves of electromagnetic energy and sprays of plasma wash over its surface. A complex series of interactions between the planet's geomagnetic field and the solar wind constantly ripple the surface of the magnetosphere. Normally this passes unremarked, but the violence of the Trial by Fire is an order of magnitude greater than normal. The geomagnetic disturbance it causes grows and rages, finally developing into a fully-fledged magnetic storm. The net effect of this is a hugely unstable magnetic anomaly in Vio'la's ionosphere, resulting in massive degradation of communication, satellite and sensor performance.

Glittering plasma tornadoes, as wondrous as they are deadly, howl across Vio'la's sandy expanses, vitrifying whole swathes of desert sand. The spectacular Prism Desert in the southern hemisphere is one area of the planet that often bears the brunt of this, and once Vior'la has come through the Trial by Fire, the newly created rippling glass dunes and delicate crystal seas are a breathtakingly beautiful sight. Arcs of rainbow colour and rippling light refract through the gracefully moulded glass waves and many among the Earth caste take particularly exquisite examples of this phenomenon to fashion into much sought-after ornaments and decorations. Each Trial by Fire reshapes the Prism Desert and those Tau able to travel from other septs frequently come to Vio'la to see them before the next.

During the Trial by Fire, the cities of Vio'la become hermetically sealed environments, vast domes swelling from each city's perimeter to envelop and protect those within. As storms wrack the surface, the cities become isolated but, other than this, there is no disruption to the Fire warriors' training schedules. At this time, the planet itself becomes virtually unreachable, cut off from the rest of the Tau Empire. Only when the Tau'cyr reaches the Kai'rotaa dedicated to the Ethereals does Vior'la emerge from the swathes of plasma that envelop it.

Under normal circumstances, the planet's climate is dry and parched, the few fertile areas on the surface ingeniously irrigated by underground aqueducts and maintained by the planet's Earth caste. Those rare areas of water that do exist are carefully protected and, together with underground springs and moisture traps, form a vital network that sustains life on Vio'la. This hot climate seems to heighten the aggression of many of the young Fire caste warriors and the training regimes at the famous Shas Or'es Academy harnesses this aggressiveness and moulds its students into some of the most fearsome Fire warriors in the Tau Empire. The gravitational field strength of the planet is also slightly higher than on T'au, resulting in a minor muscle mass increase in the inhabitants.

Space Marine Chaplains are the spiritual leaders of the Space Marines. They accompany their battlebrothers to war, chanting litergies and pushing them to further feats of bravery. They wear black power armour and the deaths head mask, bordering on some Chaos Space Marine symbols. They enjoy warfare and the slaughter of their enemies, as they believe it to be the best way to honour the Emperor and their founding primarch.

They differ in their preaching to the Ecclesiarchy by their belief that the Emperor is not a god, just an inspired man. This is more how Space Marines see the Emperor.

Chaplains are often blessed with a rosarius from the Ecclesiarchy to symbolise the tenuous link between the groups. This device can protect the wearer from even a lascannon shot.

Within a Chapter
Chaplains feature heavily in a Space Marine's daily life. They also watch over the neophites, newly joined members of the Space Marines, waiting for their implants. They are notoriously strict and fiery but they are also known for sense of duty and responsibility for the brother marines.

Within the Fortress Monastry is the Reclusium, the place where the chapters holy relics and, sometimes, the body of their primarch, is housed. The Chaplains lead their sermons from here, and rouse the Marines in their love of the Emperor. The battlebarges and ships of the chapters fleet also include huge cathedrals in the heart of each ship, allowing the Space Marines to pray while away from the fortress. They always lead the Space Marines in prayer, but a chaplain is not always needed for a marine to pray.

Armour
The armour worn by Chaplains are holy in themselves. Often, they are hundreds, if not thousands, of years old. It is frequently adorned with ancient pieces of equipment, making them waking shrines in themselves. The face plate almost always represents a skull, inspiring fear in their enemies and faith in their fellow marines.

He also carries the Crozius Arcanum, used in official ceremonies and worship, and is often topped with an Imperial Eagle or winged skull. It incorporates a potent energy field, allowing it to punch through armour easily.

Chapter Variations
Many chapters follow the Codex Astartes, but some have strayed from it. The Dark Angels use Interrogator Chaplains, forcing the fallen of their forces to confess and repent or to kill them after days of agonising pain.

The Iron Hands Chaplains are actually their Techmarines as well, as their link with technology is so strong.

In the Blood Angels chapter, the Chaplains lead the Death Company to their demise. They also care for those who completely succumb to the Red Thirst, keeping them locked on their homeworld, Baal.

Within the Space Wolves, the Wolf Priests fullfil both Chaplain and Apothecary roles.
Not all Space Marine Chapters have a specific homeworld; some chapters such as the Black Tempelars take their asspirants from several differant homeworlds while others may be ship-based chapters, moving from planet to planet and recruiting on the way. A Space Marine Chapter can lose all rights to its homeworld if it is deemed corrupt by the Imperium such as the Mantis Legion and Executioners due to their participation in the Badab War although they were since granted the Emperor's forgiveness.

The Razorback is a tracked, armoured vehicle used by the Space Marine chapters. Its design is based on the Rhino chassis and as such is quite easy to manufacture.

It was originally designed prior to the Emperor, during the first expansion of mankind into the galaxy. It was, like all other information, stored on the ancient STC systems, but lost during the Age of Strife. It was eventually found again in M36 by Chief Artisan Tilius. His quest was to find a fully operation STC system. Because it was found after the Horus Heresy Chaos Space Marines don't use it.

It was designed to be a transport, but with more firepower than the basic Rhino. Many Space Marine commanders swear by its extra firepower, saying that it always makes up for its reduced transport capacity.

It is armed with twin-linked Heavy Bolters, and these can be upgraded to either twin-linked lascannons, a multimelta or a lascannon and twin-linked plasma guns. It can carry up to 6 Space Marines in power armour but may not carry terminators.
|The Dark Age of Technology. Discovery of warp drives accelerates the colonisation process and the early independent or corporate colonies become federated to Terra. The first alien races are encountered. The development of the Navigator gene allows human pilots to make longer and faster 'jumps' through warp space than was previously thought possible. The great Navigator families, initially controlled by industrial and trading cartels, become a power base in their own right. Humanity continues to explore and colonise the galaxy. Contacts are established with the Eldar and other alien races. A golden age of scientific achievement begins. Perfection of the Standard Template Construct (STC) system now permits an almost explosive expansion to the stars.
