The Battle of Irradium Alpha began when Abaddon the Despoiler dispatched a force of allied Word Bearers to the world of Irradium Alpha[1a] (located in Ultima Segmentum)[1b] to destroy the null-field megaliths there. However the world was a Necron Tomb World, and the Word Bearers became embroiled in a grinding battle against Necron constructs. Only after summoning Daemons of Khorne were the Word Bearers successful in completing their mission.[1a]
