The Battle of Khaine's Gate was an important event in Dark Eldar history, taking place around the same time as the Thirteenth Black Crusade.

For years, Khaine's Gate in Commorragh had shows signs of instability. However, the possession of Yvraine by the Eldar god Ynnead proved to be the final stra. Psychic energy bled across the Dark City, leading to a hyperspatial quake that saw millions die. During the instability, Khaine's Gate is torn upon and Daemons swarm across Commorragh. Despite desperate attempts from the cities nobles to stem the tide of Daemons, Asdrubael Vect is mysteriously absent and only appears when the Dark Eldar are at their breaking point after months of fighting. He quickly organizes a massive counterattack, calling upon the Incubi and paying in every debt of old in order to mobilize a formidable army.[1]

With his new army, Vect's attack is able to corral the Daemons into the sub-realm containing the gaping hole that was Khaine's Gate before being severed from the rest of Commorragh, becoming known as the Chasm of Woe. However the Daemons kept coming, rising from the massive abscesses created within the city. This forces Vect to plunge more districts of the city into sub-dimensions, taking entire armies and masses of slaves with them.[1]
