Template:Ambiguous Battlefleet Gothic is the Imperial Navy's Battlefleet of the Gothic Sector of the Imperium. It is most famous for bearing the brunt of Abaddon the Despoilers Twelfth Black Crusade, also known as the Gothic War.[1a]

History

Responsible for overseeing the safety of the Imperial Fleets activities throughout the Gothic Sector, Battlefleet Gothic has always had to deal with a myriad of threats such as Ork Freebooterz, Eldar Corsairs, and human pirates.[1e] However due to its close proximity to the Eye of Terror its greatest threat has always come from the Forces of Chaos, particularly the Black Crusades of Abaddon the Despoiler.[1b] The threat from Chaos culminated in early M41 as the Gothic Sector became the frontline for the latest of the Despoiler's Black Crusades: the Gothic War. During the early stages of the conflict Battlefleet Gothic suffered horrendous losses in a surprise attack[1c] and was bled to near exhaustion against the invading Chaos Fleet, which managed to capture most of the Sectors Blackstone Fortresses and destroyed entire worlds with a massive ship known as the Planet Killer.[1d]

In the end however the Imperium would emerge victorious after the Battlefleet's Admiral, Ravensburg, managed to turn the tide against Chaos at the Battle of Gethsemane and Pirate forces at the Attack on the Pirates' Haven.[1e] Using the ensuing years after their victory to rebuild their strength, the whole of Battlefleet Gothic later returned to aid the Sectors surrounding the Cadian Gate during the Thirteenth Black Crusade.[2]
