The Cabal of Ahriman was a group of powerful sorcerers in the Thousand Sons legion brought together to cast a spell called the Rubric of Ahriman, a spell which transformed the majority of the Thousand Sons into soulless automatons.

History

During the Burning of Prospero a genetic mutation within the Thousand Sons Legion surfaced. [1a]This mutation had not been seen since prior to the unification of the Legion with their Primarch. [1b]

Once Magnus and the Thousand Sons fled to the Planet of the Sorcerers, Ahriman had found a spell in the Book of Magnus which he called the Rubric. He thought this spell could cure the Legion of this mutation but he needed the help of Hathor Maat, Sobek and Amon to form his Cabal and make the spell work. [1c] When Ahriman asked them to join his Cabal they originally refused to join and help Ahriman cast the Rubric however once Magnus was elevated to the rank of Daemon Prince they then accepted to join his Cabal and helped Ahriman cast the Rubric. [2a]

When the Cabal of Ahriman was formed and the Rubric was cast the Legion was then both simultaneously saved and doomed. Although the mutation had stopped, the members of the Legion that had little or no sorcerous powers had been reduced to piles of dust inside their armour and had become little more than soulless automatons. [2a] After the Rubric was cast Magnus went to Ahriman and his Cabal and they were exiled from the legion. [2a] [3]
