Dark Apostle is a the first novel of the Word Bearers trilogy written by Anthony Reynolds. It was published in 2007.

Synopsis

The world of Tanakreg is viciously assaulted by a force of Word Bearers Chaos Space Marines led by the powerful Dark Apostle Jarulek. Enslaving the population, the Word Bearers begin construction of a monumental tower, an unholy bastion of sinister purpose. What precisely the Chaos Legion is doing on the world is a mystery, but it is clear that they have a timetable to keep...one that the forces of the Imperial Guard and the Adeptus Mechanicus are keen to disrupt. The monumental tower is essential to the plans of the Word Bearers. It is used in conjunction with the aligning planets and it opens the ground to where the Necrons lay buried. Within this is a piece of technology that has warp modifying properties.

Assailed from without by forces of the Imperium determined to free their world and from within by treacherous underlings, Jarulek must focus all his powers in order to bring glory to the forces of Chaos.
