A Founding is the act by which new chapters of Space Marines are created. The process involves collecting gene-seed from another, already existing, chapter which is then refered to as the parent chapter. Examples are the White Consuls and Black Consuls, both descendants from the Ultramarines The Founding of new chapters is a great endeavour, and is only performed by orders from the High Lords of Terra
Founding can also refer to the creation of an Imperial Guard regiment, which are often first mustered on their homeworld's Founding Field before being shipped off-world.
