Harjeon was a Guardsman of the Tanith First and Only regiment.[1a][2]

Biography

Harjeon was one of the Verghastite recruits drafted into the regiment in the aftermath of the Siege of Vervunhive. Unlike a number of the other Verghastite Guardsmen who signed on, Harjeon had no formal combat experience prior to enlisting, which resulted in him being placed near the bottom of the informal "pecking order" that the new recruits fell into.[1a][2] Despite this, he was considered one of the best of the new blood by Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt, the regiment's commanding officer.[1b]

Following the Siege of Vervunhive, the Tanith First was deployed on Hagia. During the retaking of the Holy Doctrinopolis, Colonel Corbec was captured by the Infardi. Harjeon volunteered to accompany Sergeant Kolea on a rescue mission despite the Tanith being ordered to evacuate the city in preparation for an impending armoured assault on the Doctrinopolis by the Eighth Pardus Armoured.[1a]

Later, Harjeon joined the rest of his regiment in the Phantine theatre. Following the assault on the city of Cirenholm, a combination of battlefield casualties and the pressing need to more fully integrate the Verghastite elements of the Tanith First led Colonel-Commissar Gaunt and Commissar Hark to put forward a number of Verghastite Troopers for consideration for promotion. Harjeon was suggested for one of the positions by Hark, but Gaunt rejected the decision, citing Harjeon's relative lack of respect from the other men in the regiment.[2]
