Hazon Dak'ir as a Librarian[2]
Spoiler!
This page contains spoilers for: Tome of Fire (Novel Series)

Hazon Dak'ir was a Space Marine of the Salamanders Chapter.

History

Early Life and Service

Dak'ir was the first and only Salamander to hail from the region of Nocturne known as Ignea; most of the Chapter's Aspirants instead came from one of the seven Sanctuary Cities of Nocturne. This marked him out as different from his peers - in particular this resulted in a large degree of resentment from his fellow Salamander Tsu'gan.[3]

As a Scout, Dak'ir's first action was on the planet Moribar. The Salamanders were there to bring a number of Renegade Space Marines to justice, but ended up fighting against them instead. At the conclusion of the battle, Dak'ir witnessed the renegade Librarian Nihilan engulfed by a wall of fire, which would go on to haunt Dak'ir's dreams. The Salamanders seemingly wiped all of the renegades out in the conflict.[3]

Unlocking Psychic Potential

Dak'ir later held the rank of Veteran Sergeant in the Chapter's Third Company. Although constantly the target of Tsu'gan's loathing, Dak'ir never rose to his fellow Veteran Sergeant's baiting. Instead, he always chose to avoid confrontation with the headstrong Sergeant. He was later removed from his position for showing unusually late psychic activity, thus leaving command of his squad (in complete confidence) to his closest friend Ba'ken. It was also revealed to Chapter Master Tu'Shan that Dak'ir was mentioned in an ancient prophecy that could either be the doom or salvation of the Chapter. For this, Dak'ir would undergo trials to be trained by Librarian Pyriel.[2]

Training

Dak'ir then trained with Librarian Pyriel below Mount Deathfire in a pyre chamber. While doing so Dak'ir unleashed a great inferno that nearly overwhelmed Pyriel's psychic shield. Chief Librarian Vel'cona aided Pyriel and pushing back the inferno to its source, Dak'ir. Dak'ir was unconscious with his armor having burnt away. Following this Vel'cona reflected on the passage in the Tome of Fire possibly referring to Dak'ir as a saviour or destroyer. Vel'cona then warns that Pyriel must kill Dak'ir if he goes out of control again.[2]
