Hebet Zybes was a citizen of Calth, who worked as a farmhand, when the Word Bearers attacked the world, during the Horus Heresy. As the invasion raged, Zybes soon joined a small group of Imperials who escaped with the Perpetual Ollanius Persson, into a Warp Rift he created.[1a]

History

This began a journey through time and space, as Ollanius Persson tried to reach Terra before the traitorous Warmaster Horus could kill the Emperor. In order to do so, Persson had to use a Athame ritual blade to create numerous temporary Warp Rifts, to travel through. However soon afterwards, the group began to be pursued by a Daemon who sought to stop them before they reached Terra. No matter how many Warp Rifts they escaped into, the Daemon was able to track the group down and was always close behind them. This led Zybes to be in a constant state of fear, which was not helped when his fellow traveler Katt, discovered she had Psychic abilities. She would use her powers to determine the length of time it would take before the Daemon reached them, which allowed the group to stay one step ahead of it[1a]. However her abilities led Zybes to fear and distrust her as a witch, which in turn eventually led him to begin hating her.[1b]

Zybes survived the journey to Terra as well as the horrific Emperor's Children dream-garden known as Paradise. He was able to resist the temptations of the realm as he had nothing left besides Oll and his group.[1c] Zybes accompanied the group into the Imperial Dungeon, eventually reaching the Golden Throne alongside the other "Argonauts", but discovering that the Emperor had gone to fight Horus aboard the Vengeful Spirit.[2]

As the group continued on their quest, Zybes discovered a spool of his thread leading a path that John Grammaticus came to believe was sent by them from the future.[3a] However, they were soon confronted by Erebus on the walls of the Imperial Palace. During the subsequent fight most of the group were slain. Zybes was killed when Erebus used Enuncia to blow Graft apart, causing a piece of metal to impale him.[3b]
