Honorius Luciel was an officer of the Ultramarines Legion active at the tail end of the Great Crusade. By that point he served as the Captain of the Legion's 209th Company.[1a]

Biography

At one point in the Great Crusade, Luciel led his company during a campaign on Caskian against an insectoid xenos species. While deployed on Caskian, Luciel and the 209th fought alongside a company of the Word Bearers Legion led by Sorot Tchure. Despite the tense relationship between their Legions (a result of the the Emperor having had the Ultramarines destroy the city of Monarchia to censure the Word Bearers' defiance of the Imperial Truth), Luciel struck up a friendship with Tchure.[1c]

Eight years later[1c], when the Ultramarines and Word Bearers Legions mustered above the planet Calth prior to a planned action against the orks of the Ghaslakh xenohold[1b], Luciel and his company were assigned to guard Numinus High Anchor, a fleet anchor station above Numinus City. Luciel had personally requested the assignment, as this would allow him to meet with his friend Tchure once again.[1a]

At one point during the muster, Luciel did indeed meet Tchure aboard the cruiser Samothrace. When the Word Bearers abruptly revealed their true allegiances at the start of the Horus Heresy, Luciel and 17 Marines under his direct command were murdered by a group of Tchure's Word Bearers. Many commentaries on the battle that followed would credit Luciel and his men as the first Loyalist casualties, although others held that, strictly speaking, the crew of the fleet tender Campanile (who had earlier been slaughtered in a clandestine boarding action) died before Luciel.[1a]

Wargear

By the end of the Great Crusade, Luciel wore a suit of Praetor-pattern power armour manufactured on Veridia Forge.[1a]
