The Iron Blood compared to a Cobra Class Destroyer[2]

The Iron Blood was a Gloriana Class Battleship of the Iron Warriors, and the personal flagship of its primarch, Perturabo during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.[1b]

Overview

Built in the shipyards of Olympia, it was one of the mightiest capital ships in the galaxy, capable of single-handedly annihilating fleets and entire planets.[1b] The Iron Blood was among the largest Gloriana-class Vessels alongside the Vengeful Spirit, Hrafnkel, and Conqueror.[3] The Iron Blood took part in many battles of the Great Crusade, and was badly damaged by a Hrud temporal shockwave during the Sak'trada Deeps Campaign.[4]

One of the oddities of the Iron Blood was its lack of viewports, even on the bridge. Perturabo, who had a hand in its design, scorned the need for them, decreeing that visual contact with the enemy added nothing to the cold logic of a battle which could be directed through auspex scans and tactical displays. Ironically, he could not resist the urge to watch the progress of the Battle at the Phall system with his own eyes, and so resorted to looking out an open launch bay, protected from the vacuum by the seals of his power armour.[1a]

The forward segment of the Iron Blood was known as the Dodekatheon. It was here that the Iron Warrior's Warrior Lodge was housed, and was the site of busied war simulations between various Iron Warriors. Members would play mock battles against the other using classic miniatures or digital screens.[4]

During the Horus Heresy the Captain of the Iron Blood was Bahdet Vort, a cybernetic hybrid that had since fused with the command throne of the vessel.[5]
