Jelena[3]

Jelena is a House Escher gang leader. She commands the Carrion Queens, who are active in Necromunda's Hive Primus.[1]

History

She was formally the second-in-command of the Carrion Queens' former leader, Leeara Nines, until Nines was killed by a rival Goliath named Skullshank. After their leader's death, however, Jelena took command of the gang and led the Carrion Queens into becoming one of the most savage gangs of Necromunda. The now famous gang[1] was in the Hive Bottom Sump Sea settlement of Sump City, when the Great Rift's creation caused a great upheaval to sweep across the Hive World. The Carrion Queens knew nothing of this, but soon felt its impact when a horde of creatures, Mutants and Chaos Cultists began attacking the settlement. Jelena quickly took command of Sump City's defense, but though they inflicted heavy causalities against the invaders, the settlement began to be overrun. Seeing that there was nothing more to be done to save Sump City, Jelena gave the order to escape aboard the ships docked at the settlement. Just before they fled, however, she had explosives planted within it, which would cause Sump City to collapse and kill its invaders. Though their ships were boarded even as they fled, Sump City's survivors were able to kill the attacking invaders and cast off from the doomed settlement. Before they were completely clear of Sump City, Jelena ordered the explosives to be detonated and while the ships survived the resulting explosion, the settlement sank beneath the Sump Sea.[2]

The survivors became lost afterwards, however, during their flight and began seeking a way to reach the upper levels of Hive Primus. It was thanks to the veteran Sump Spider hunter Ismur Blackwater, that they discovered they were now deep within the Sump Sea and the closest location for such an entrance was in the series of islands known as the Aquila Archipelago. Jelena then had Blackwater steer her fleet's flagship, the Sump Queen, to the Archipelago, though the survivors were unaware that one of its islands was held by a Helot Cult, that worshiped the Chaos Spawn known as the God of Many Mouths. As the fleet neared the island, the Cult's ships were able to advance upon them, until Jelena spotted them just as the Helots were about to attack.[2]

The Chaos Spawn also took part in the battle, as it was chained to a ship as its worshipers launched attacks or boarded the Sump City fleet. When the God of Many Mouths' ship crossed the path of Jelena's flagship, the Sump Queen, Blackwater steered directly into it, despite the gang leader telling him to avoid the ship. The resulting crash splintered the Chaos Spawn's ship, but the God of Many Mouths was among its crew that escaped aboard the Sump Queen. There it wrecked havoc and killed anyone that crossed the Chaos Spawn's path. Blackwater would have been among them, but just before the God of Many Mouths crashed into him, Jelena speared the Chaos Spawn with one of her flagship's Harpoon Guns. It was left unable to move, which gave Jelena time to order Blackwater to steer the Sump Queen hard to port. The spider hunter did as she asked and this sent the Chaos Spawn hurtling off the flagship, where it then destroyed several Helot ships before demolishing the defences of the Cult's island. The God of Many Mouths' path finally stopped after the Chaos Spawn crashed into its temple, leaving it mostly dead. Jelena's survivors then stormed the Cult's island and seeing this, and the remains of their dead god, caused most of the Helots to flee. Those that did not were quickly killed by the survivors, who now possessed the island.[2]
