Though the gates that stand between the mortal world and the immortal Realm of Chaos are now closed to me, still I would rather die having glimpsed eternity than never to have stirred the cold furrow of mortal life. I embrace death without regret as I embraced life without fear."[1]

Kargos Bloodspitter[4]

Kargos, known as The Bloodspitter, was an Apothecary in the 8th Company of the World Eaters during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.

History

A member of Captain Kharn's command squad, he earned his nickname "Bloodspitter" for his habit of spitting blood into the eyes of his enemies in arena combat aboard the Conqueror. During these bouts Kargos was often paired with the ferocious Blood Angels Captain Nassir Amit. The two gained a strong bond, particularly after Sanguinius and Angron themselves witnessed a much-publicized fight to the death with two World Eaters champions.[3b] Uncharacteristically for the World Eaters Legion, Kargos possessed a great sense of humor and wit and often used it to calm his comrades during their rages.[1]

Kargos followed his legion into rebellion, and helped to kill his loyalist brethren during the Battle of Isstvan III. In the battle's aftermath, he saved the life of Kharn who had been horribly wounded in combat.[1a] By the Siege of Terra, Kargos had succumbed fully to madness, his Apothecary tools broken. He nonetheless was the one to discover the body of Kharn after his battle with Sigismund, taking up his former Captain's Chain Axe Gorechild.[3c] Guided by the Word Bearers Chaplain Inzar Taerus, Kargos took part in the invasion of the Inner Palace. During an assault on a refugee convoy, Kargos was met by his former chain-brother Nassir Amit and had his throat cut. However he was able to recover, swearing retribution against Amit who simply told him to "eat shit [sic], traitor".[3a]

Next, Kargos was part of the horde that assailed the Eternity Gate. During the battle he nearly slew Arkhan Land, killing his pet cyber-monkey sapian. Later in the vicious melee he again came to blows with Nassir Amit. Kargos was again defeated, and as he lay dying on the ground was mocked for his weakness by Chaplain Taerus.[3b]

Despite his mortal wounds, he somehow recovered and even managed to escape Terra after Horus' death. He joined the bulk of the now-leaderless World Eaters fleet during the Great Scouring, and killed the captain of one company to take charge of his warriors. Thus, Kargos rose to lead his own warband, and even served in the Legion's consultative "Enclave".[5] At some point, he also became a Chaos Champion of Khorne.[2] When the World Eaters ultimately sought refuge at Skalathrax in the Eye of Terror, finding the world already claimed by the Emperor's Children, Kargos was one of the commanders advocating for an immediate attack.[5]
