Lyros Sydance was a Captain of the Ultramarines Legion at the onset of the Horus Heresy.[1a][1b]
History
During the Great Crusade (roughly eight years before the Battle of Calth), Sydance led the main assault on the Eldar Craftworld Jielthwa. During the charge, he was cut off and ended up fighting and killing a dozen Eldar warriors single-handedly before being reinforced by Remus Ventanus. Although Sydance was decorated by his Primarch for this achievement, Sydance and Ventanus noted that there were actually thirteen bodies in the hall where the fight took place, remarking that there was a high probability that the last kill was made by Ventanus (who had come in firing). Thus, it became a standing joke between the two that Sydance was decorated for twelve kills whereas Ventanus had only made one, but that Ventanus's may have been crucial.[1b]
During the Battle of Calth, Sydance was commanding the 4th Company. Sydance survived the initial Word Bearers assault and fought under Captain Ventanus when he took command of their mustered forces.[1b]
