The Reslian 45th is an Astra Militarum Regiment.[1]

Campaign History

The Regiment was among the strike force sent to save Vardan IV from an Ork invasion. However, the Xenos were unstoppable and the Warmaster who led the strike force later gave the order to evacuate the now doomed world. While the majority of the Regiment's surviving Guardsmen escaped, a Valkyrie carrying ten members of its D Company was shot down by the Orks while flying to the evacuation zone. A small number of Guardsmen survived the crash, though they did not know where they were and had no way of contacting the strike force. Because of the massive damage the missile did to their Valkyrie, the Guardsmen knew the strike force did not think anyone had survived the crash, and the group's highest ranking officer, Corporal Rikkards, relied on Scout Varus to lead them to the evacuation zone. Though she had been confident she could do so, several days later, Varus accidentally led them to a valley that was nowhere near the evacuation zone.[1]

The group accepted they would die and the next day, the Guardsmen were attacked by an Ork scouting group. Though they defeated the Orks, Corporal Rikkards was killed in the attack and Guardsmen Lopata forcefully took command of the group. He ordered that they investigate the valley Varus had led them to, and discovered an Imperial settlement which did not realize the order to evacuate had been given. The group did not want to tell the settlement's citizens they had been abandoned by the Imperium and instead the Guardsmen claimed they were there to defend it from the Orks. A few days later, they killed a second group of Ork scouts and the Guardsmen knew the Orks would soon show up in force to discover what had happen to the scouts. The next day, however, they spotted a passing Valkyrie and managed to signal it to the settlement's location. Once it landed, one of the Valkyrie's crew members stated it only had room for the surviving Guardsmen and the strike force's ships were leaving Vardan IV the next day. While Lopata, Varus and Blashak, a field medic orderly, quickly boarded the Valkyrie, the youngest member of their group refused. Known by his nickname "Boy", the Guardsmen said the group had sworn to die defending the settlement and he was not willing to leave the citizens to fend for themselves against the Orks. The others, though, were not willing to die when they had a chance to escape and after Boy repeatedly refused to change his mind, the Valkyrie left him behind. Guardsman Boy later died on what was his 19th birthday, defending the settlement from an Ork attack.[1]
