Sacris is a Feudal World in the Calixis Sector and homeworld of the Storm Wardens Chapter.[1]

Overview

Highlands, moors and murky swamplands constitute most of the planet's surface. The planet's satellite, Highcastle, houses the Storm Wardens fortress-monastery.[1]

Upon Sacris, many rival tribes of humans wage wars of dominance across the swamplands. Under the command of charismatic warlords, Sacris tribesmen paint their faces with woad and arm themselves with Sacris Claymores, the heirloom weapons of their families, in preparation for battle. To this honourable warrior-culture, a man's word is his bond, a belief that stems from their religious devotion to The Emperor, who they see as a harsh father-figure who judges all men's souls by the strength of their arms and the purity of their honour. Much of the Storm Wardens' ways have been strongly influenced by society of their homeworld. It is not uncommon to see Neophytes of the Chapter sporting woad face-paint on the battlefield, and when Aspirants pass the trails of initiation, they take with them a Sacris Claymore, to be delivered home when they die.[1]

The lithic southern continent of Sacris is inhabited by a large contingent of Ogryns. It may be that the ancient oath taken by the Storm Wardens in the wake of The Nemesis Incident is the cause of this. As a result, Storm Wardens have no issue fighting alongside abhumans.[1]

Presently, automated beacons encompass Sacris' orbit, declaring Sacris a Forbidden World and circulating Imperial propaganda that states that a virulent plague is ravaging the planet's surface. The reason for such deception has been bound in secrecy with Owin Glendwyr, who sleeps now in a hidden stasis vault - the conclusion of his command to quarantine Sacris after the Nemesis Incident. To this day, new generations of Storm Wardens uphold their ancient oath to keep the planet quarantined, knowing not the purpose of Owin's final command.[1]

Storm Wardens Initiations

When a time of initiation befalls the Storm Wardens Chapter, they descend upon Sacris from the planet's moon, Highcastle. Chosen Aspirants must battle their way through the savage fauna of Sacris (fen-trolls etc.) upon the shifting moors, each competing to top the other contenders' times taken in a kind of brutal race that only the best survivors can win. This in itself is no small task as the Aspirants must avoid pockets of deadly swamp gas, cross through regions infested with swarm leeches and then cross quicksand-laden plains to find their way to the Storm Wardens' landing site. Those who've made it this far must then contend in fights against fellow aspirants, only those who pass these tests are taken to become Storm Wardens. Those who've failed are still shown great respect by their tribes, having performed beyond standard human means.[1]
