History
Savaven was the site of a Cult uprising in 555.M38; which was later ended by the Battle Sisters of the Order of the Valorous Heart.[1]
Abaddon the Despoiler targeted the planet in the early stages of the Gothic War because it was home to a secret Inquisitorial Fortress beneath the Cathedral, where Inquisitor Thadus Valconet Horst had compiled his research on the Eye of Night and Hand of Darkness.[3a]. After a brief battle with the few ships of the defence fleet, it was destroyed by the Planet Killer.[2]
Inquisitor Horst later teleported his soul in the body of the Grey Knight Paladin Belacus into the crypts beneath Savaven after his body was possessed by a daemon.[3b] He was found there centuries later by Inquisitor Katarinya Greyfax.[3a]
Canon Conflict
On page 95, the Battlefleet Gothic Rulebook states:
"Like a rations pack crushed in your fist, Savaven just crumpled in on herself, then broke up into thousands of fragments. There’s just an asteroid field there now, really dense, impossible to navigate." [2]
Other accounts of the Planet Killer describe similar levels of destruction.
Eye of Night (Audio Drama) completely contradicts this account, postulating an intact Savaven on which Horst/Belacus could take refuge.
