Scout Squad
From Lexicanum
A Scout Squad is a lightly armoured infiltration unit of a Space Marine army, it is composed of 4 Scouts and 1 Scout Sergeant.
Usually all the scout squads of a Space Marines chapter are organized in the 10th company as dictated by the Codex Astartes.
They are Space Marines in training before being promoted to full Space Marine status and deployment in one of the Space Marine Squads.

Chapter variations on Scouts
Raven Guard
The Raven Guard make extensive use of Scout Squads to fit with their combat doctrine of guerilla warfare and stealthy attacks, in order to find weakness in the enemy to be exploited using lightning strikes.
Salamanders
The Salamanders chapter uses an altered version of the Codex Astartes with only 6 squads in the 6th company, supported by Scout Bike Squadrons, including up to 60 Scouts.
Space Wolves
The Space Wolves' name for a Scout Squad is the Wolf Scouts although they are better trained before being deployed, as they are not the new recruits (this is a role fulfilled by the Blood Claws). Instead, Wolf Scouts are the veterans of the Space Wolves, being the marines with the most self discilpline, which makes them better suited to the roles of infiltration and sabotage.
Black Templars
The Black Templars do not make use of scout squads. Contrary to most other chapters, their new recruits are integrated in the crusader squads (equivalent to the standard tactical squads) where they are trained individually by an Initiate. Black Templars "scouts" are called Neophytes.
Disposition and Armament
The basic squad is made up of 4 Scouts and 1 Sergeant. Squad size can range, with up to 9 Scouts and a Veteran Sergeant leading them. They all wear lighter Carapace Armour (they cannot wear Power Armour yet, as they have not been implanted with the Black Carapace needed to interface with power armour fully) and tend to carry a Bolt Pistol, normally equipped with a silencer, and Close Combat Weapon, usually a large knife-like weapon, when they enter battle. The Veteran Sergeant has access to the Space Marine Armoury, and his armament can vary accordingly.
Scouts can also be armed with Bolters, Sniper Rifles or Shotguns.
Certain Scouts who have shown an affinity for heavier weapons can be armed with either a Heavy Bolter or Missile Launcher. Scouts armed with heavy bolters will often also employ Hellfire Shells.
Like their more experienced marine counterparts, Scouts are generally armed with Frag Grenades and Krak Grenades. As traditional APC transports work against their stealthy approach to combat, scouts are only transported via drop pod or Land Speeder Storm, if they use a transport at all.
