History

Serving as a Forge World since the Dark Age of Technology,[1] the people of Shenlong worshiped a dragon-god. During the Great Crusade, the Emperor himself arrived on Shenlong and forced them into compliance. Among those killed by the Emperor was the creator of Lantern, which would go on to become the personal sidearm of Mortarion.[3]

The planet was captured by the Word Bearers in late M41. Shortly after the planet was captured, members of the Blood Angels Space Marine Chapter launched an attack and freed the planet. However, these Astartes were being manipulated by Inquisitor Ramius Stele into believing that their battle-brother Arkio was the reincarnation of Sanguinius, in an attempt to lead them to swearing allegiance to the Gods of Chaos.[1]

Converted by Arkio's charisma, the planet's population rallied to Arkio and renounced worship of the Emperor of Mankind. Arkio intended to build an army from these people and launch a "Blood Crusade" against the forces of Chaos, and chose a thousand of the best Shenlongi commoners to serve as his "Warriors of the Reborn".[1]

Later, after Arkio and Stele were killed on Sabien, the Shenlongi all too eagerly embraced the Word Bearers again, and Chief Librarian Mephiston concluded that the people of Shenlong were too tainted by Chaos, ordering the planet subjected to Exterminatus.[1]
