Urbitane is a major city on the Imperial world of Sameter.[1]

Overview

Considered the planet's second city after its capital, Aquitane, Urbitane suffered from stagnation and decay when Sameter lost its status in the Helican Subsector in favour of Thracian Primaris.[1]

The city overlooks a polluted bay. It also features a major spaceport and multiple promethium refineries.[1]

History

In 241.M41, Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn was despatched to Sameter by Lord Inquisitor Rorken with instructions to investigate a potential link between a trade federation based on Sameter with a secessionist organisation on Hesperus. While investigating, Eisenhorn utilised a hotel in Urbitane as his base of operations.[1]

Although the connection turned out to be a dead end with regards to that particular case, however, seditious activity was uncovered in Urbitane: a series of mutilations over the course of a month led Imperial authorities to believe that a heretic cult was active on Sameter. Eskeen Hansaard, Minister of Security for Urbitane, requested the inquisitor's help in dealing with the problem, as he believed it beyond the scope of the city's Arbites. Eisenhorn discovered that the "cultists" were in fact shell-shocked veterans, formerly of the Sameter Ninth Infantry. They had been psychologically scarred by a campaign against the forces of Chaos on Surealis Six, to the point that they saw signs of "corruption" amongst Urbitane's civilians and sought to purge them. Many of the surviving veterans were rounded up by the Arbites, but some did not go quietly, forcing the Arbites and Eisenhorn to kill them in a number of struggles, and others escaped the authorities.[1]
