Template:LReg2The Valhallan Ice Warriors come from the planet Valhalla. Its soldiers are hardened to its extremely cold climate. The Valhallans are directly based on the real world historical Soviet Red Army.

Organization

Battle Style

Through combatting Orks in the defense of their homeworld, the Valhallans have become adept at fighting Orks, and are often deployed to fight wars where this talent can be put to use. The Ice Warriors are stoic and unwavering when on the defensive, resolutely holding their ground against fearful odds where other troops would consider it a good idea to flee. Enemies have often found that Valhallan defending forces need to be completely destroyed to capture the held ground. Valhallans are trained to fight in dense formations to support their morale. When on the offensive, Valhallans combine massed artillery barrages and infantry wave assaults.

Equipment

All Valhallans are equipped with standard-issue Lasguns and flak armour but certain Guardsmen are armed with special or heavy weapons. Their uniforms are made for colder climates, including heavy coats.

The Valhallans widely use Flamers and Mortars.

Valhallan 597th Ice Warriors (597th Valhallan Ice Warriors)

Template:IntWikOriginally designated the 296th/301st Valhallan Ice Warriors, the Regiment was formed from the remnant of two Valhallan infantry regiments: the 301st Valhallan Ice Warriors; and the 296th Valhallan Ice Warriors.
The 301st were specialised planetary assault shock troops, while the 296th were rear echelon, HQ security units and one of Valhalla's few all female regiments. Both units had been all but annihilated when the Tyranids had arrived on Corania. The re-designation of the unit to the 597th was made by Commissar Ciaphas Cain on his appointment as the regimental Commissar. It was done in an effort to weld the two halves of the new regiment together, two halves which stood divided by prejudice, tradition and gender. This measure succeeded and by 539.931.M41 the regiment had its first battle honours, after successfully preventing the Tau from annexing an imperial world during the Gravalax Incident.2
