The Vigilant Guard are the Astra Militarum Regiments tithed from the Imperium world Vigilus.[1]

Overview

They are known for their unwavering faith in the Emperor, as most of their number hail from the Adeptus Ministorum held-continent Hyperia, where the Imperial Creed is a way of life. The appointment of a standing body of Ministorum Priests to their ranks, also ensured that their ever-burning belief in the God-Emperor is fanned to a blazing inferno. Due to this, they are regularly sent to fight alongside the Vigilus-based orders of the Adepta Sororitas and in doing so, have witnessed countless miracles on the fields of battle. This has led many to truly believe the Astra Militarum maxim, The Emperor Protects and this intense belief has manifested in several ways. Firstly, the Vigilant Guard are far more superstitious and reverent than their more pragmatic peers in other Regiments.[1]

The Vigilant Guard's high command strictly demand that their Guardsmen adhere to endless rites, services, traditions and obeisances, which has put them into conflict with more military minded Regiments they have served with. Though their practices are naysaid by their detractors, the Vigilant Guard were not troubled by the nightmares, created by the Great Rift's creation, that afflicted the rest of Vigilus' population. Indeed they awoke fresh and rested each day and when their world was invaded, the Vigilant Guard fought hard against their world's invaders. Though the off-world Regiments who now fight beside them, defending their Homeworld, consider the Vigilant Guard to be strange company, the Guardsmen of Vigilus have now inspired hope during the War of Beasts.[1]
