It is listed as being won back by the Royal Volpone regiments of the Imperial Guard, although other regiments, including the Tanith First and Only, were also instrumental in securing victory. Commanding a route into the heart of the sector, taking the world was of high importance to the Crusade. Little is known of the world's geography or planetary conditions, beyond some small mentions.[1]

The Voltemand Mirewoods were thick, dark and dank expanses of woodland only navigable by the use of muddy, single-track lanes. Ambushes by both sides took place here. Another transport thoroughfare that proved deadly was the Metis Road, traffic along which was burned. The Metis Road and the main Mirewood track met at a location called Pavis Crossroads, which was within artillery range of Voltis City; the nut of the world and a commanding location which ensured control of everything west of the Bokore Valley. Voltemand possessed a noble class at one point in it's history, as several expansive and ornamental country estates existed by the time the Imperial Guard arrived on-planet. Another mentioned city upon the world was that of Kosdorf, reduced to runs in the fighting.[1]

While Voltis City was the capital, and the location where the archenemy leader, Chanthar, chose to make his final stand, Kosdorf was the second city and had been so comprehensively shelled it was marked as a city grave. Some small hold-out Chaos forces had to be rooted out of there after the world's official liberation, but it was effectively a dead city.[2]

Voltemand used to boast an orbital port, however it was one of the first targets of the Chaos attack.

Battle for Voltis City

The Tanith First and Only, under covering fire from the Ketzok 17th Armoured Regiment was to advance to the city walls and create two breaches. Once these breaches had been formed, the code word 'Thunderhead' would be given to the men of the Royal Volpone 50th, who would assault on mass.[1]

Despite the commanding officer, General Noches Sturm's doubt as to the Ghosts' abilities, they were able to detonate an explosive at the secondary site, causing a breach of several hundred meters in the outer wall. All with minimal casualties also, despite losing around 40 men to the flood. Colonel Maglin's force of seven thousand heavy infantry then stormed the breach, taking the city before day broke. By nightfall, Voltis City was cleansed and safely back in Imperial hands.[1]

Once the initial fighting to get the Volpone into the city was complete, the Tanith pulled out, moving back to their base camp at Pavis Crossroads. General Noches Sturm ordered the Ketzok 17th Armoured Regiment to fire upon their position. This resulted in a further 300 dead and 200 wounded amongst the First and Only.[1]
