Aaega is a three-ringed Knight World of the Imperium.[1]
Every twenty-three years there is a contest in which the Noble Lord of each of Aaega's Knight Houses must race across the dreaded firesprawl, to reach the shrine ruins of Saint Pollundine. The first Knight to reach the shrine alive and with their suit still operational is declared the winner and secures leadership primacy for their House, until the next trial occurs. Many never live to see the shrine's crumbling walls, but this is seen as not bad thing to Aaega's Knight Houses, for it opens up opportunities for advancement and ensures that the world's ruler is as resourceful as he can be.[1]
