Age of the Imperium Age of Rebirth - The Forging - Nova Terra Interregnum - Age of Apostasy - Age of Redemption - The Waning - Time of Ending - Age of the Dark Imperium

The Age of Rebirth was the time that followed the events of the disastrous Horus Heresy. It is the first era of the Age of the Imperium. The damage to the Imperium was slowly repaired and its military forces reformed to secure safety. Eventually, it was not a military conflict that would revive unrest but a massive assassination attempt.[1]

Events

The Great Scouring (.M31)

Main article: Great Scouring

The Imperium survived the Horus Heresy, but only just. With the Emperor confined to the Golden Throne it was leaderless and the Followers of Chaos were still spread throughout the galaxy. A campaign of vengeance was started to reclaim lost territories, driving the forces of the traitors into the Eye of Terror and reestablishing stability.[1][2]

The Codex Astartes

Main article: Codex Astartes

Various doctrines and edicts were drawn up to prevent a large-scale military rebellion such as the Horus Heresy from ever happening again. The most notable of them was the Codex Astartes which split the remaining Space Marine Legions into smaller, more numerous Chapters.[1]

The Beast (544.M32)

Main article: War of the Beast

In 544.M32 an Ork Warboss known only as The Beast united much of the Ork race and nearly succeeded in conquering the Galaxy. His Waaagh! was the largest the Galaxy has ever seen and rampaged across the Imperium. The Imperium only halted his advance at great cost and desperate measure, devastating the Adeptus Astartes.[3]

The Beheading (546.M32)

Main article: The Beheading

Drakan Vangorich, Grand Master of the Officio Assassinorum initiated the deaths of the High Lords of Terra and in return was slain by the single survivor of a retribution force drawn from the Halo Brethren, Imperial Fists and Sable Swords Chapters. In the aftermath, the Imperium descended into anarchy.[1]
