During the Great Crusade, Tyr became one of Rogal Dorn's most senior captains, rising to his advisory council, the "Stone Men."[1]

When word reached Dorn of Horus's treachery, Tyr was one of the several captains who were dispatched to the Isstvan system, under the overall command of Captain Yonnad.[2a] When the fleet was becalmed by warp storms, Yonnad was killed, but not before making clear his wish that Alexis Polux succeed him as commander, despite Tyr's protests. Over the next several weeks, Tyr was among the most vocal members of the command group who advocated a breakout through the warp storms, risking the danger for the sake of completing their mission and joining the civil war raging throughout the Imperium. Polux refused, instead conducting drills for ship-to-ship combat and boarding actions, preparing for an attack by an incoming enemy.[2x]

When the Iron Warriors' fleet, led by Perturabo in person, emerged from the warp, Tyr was aboard one of the outlying ships. On seeing the Iron Warriors' flagship Iron Blood among the attacking fleet, Tyr half-expected Polux to order a tactical withdrawal, acknowledging that the Imperial Fists were outclassed as well as outnumbered and outgunned. Polux stunned him by deciding the exact opposite: tasking fifty ships to Tyr's command and ordering Tyr to assault the Battle Barge and execute Perturabo. Tyr and his strike force of fifty-three Terminators teleported onto the Iron Blood and fought their way to the main bridge. By the time they had reached the doors, guarded by a pair of Chaos Dreadnoughts, only Tyr and a handful of men remained. They broke through the gates, and Tyr launched himself at Perturabo, who smashed the Imperial Fist to the ground with Forgebreaker and left him to bleed to death on the deck.[2x]

Legacy

The Cataphractii Terminator Armour that Tyr wore was claimed as a trophy by the Iron Warriors following the Battle of Phall and eventually came to rest in the stronghold of Brisengard. Millennia later, the 4th Company of the Imperial Fists Chapter assaulted Brisengard, reclaiming the armour. After centuries of repair and appeasement, the armour was restored to service. In honour of the 4th Company's valour during the assault, the Company's Captain is entitled to wear it.[3]
