Ancreon Sextus is a planet in the Sabbat Worlds region of the Segmentum Pacificus. A desert world, its main geological features are a series of massive 'step-cities', gigantic rock labyrinths comprised of 'compartments' connected by huge archways. The origin of the step-cities is unknown, but it has been theorised that they were raised by the planet's original inhabitants as shrines to the Emperor.[1]

Sabbat Worlds Crusade

Ancreon Sextus was one of the worlds contested during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade. Chaos forces on the planet were driven back from the conventional cities and took refuge in the step-cities, where they proved extremely difficult to dislodge. Unable to simply flatten the step-cities from orbit due to the possibility that they were shrines to the Emperor, Imperial forces had to contend with constant attacks by the Blood Pact, who seemed to have an endless supply of troops. Strange monsters preyed upon isolated forces, seeming to vanish when tracked. Morale amongst Astra Militarum forces was low, and disease spread through some encampments thanks to amoral chefs from Fortis Binary processing the flesh of dead men for meat. Eventually it was discovered that the step-cities were riddled with portals disguised as rocks, and that the Blood Pact and monsters were coming through from another planet. Faced with this untenable position, Imperial command opted to retreat from the step-cities and bombard them from orbit. Not all Imperial forces were able to disengage and retreat in time.[1]
