The Astartes Praeses are eighteen Space Marine Chapters whose main task is to guard the frontiers of the Eye of Terror (although the brotherhood of chapters was originally founded with twenty chapters, one has been destroyed and another declared excommunicatus traitorus).¹ Their task, assigned by the Adeptus Terra, is to protect the Imperium from Chaos incursions from within the Eye. This is not an easy task and the chapters bear the brunt of countless raids, and sometimes even full Black Crusades before reinforcements are able to reach them. Of major importance is the Cadian system.
