The Battle of the Creeping Shards began sometime after the Great Rift's creation, when the Masque of the Dance Without End Harlequins started to hear dissonant harmonies. The Masque were the only ones who could hear the sounds and were guided by the harmonies to a series of Webway spurs, which had been infested with crystalline shards. They soon discovered that a shattered rune-gate had allowed the shards to spread from the Crystal Labyrinth of Tzeentch and the Masque was then taunted by reflections of Daemons, visible within the invading crystal shards. In order to combat the Daemons, the Masque began a dance that put them to sleep and allowed them to project their dreaming selves through the surface of the shards infesting the Webway. Now the Masque of the Dance Without End battles Tzeentch's Daemons within the Chaos God's own domain.[1]
