Bortailis Seylind was a Storm Trooper Captain stationed aboard the Battleship Enduring Blade, the flagship of Battlefleet Ultima.[1b]

Biography

Seylind started his career serving in the 35th Octobian Regiment of the Imperial Guard, which was one of several Regiments brought in to end the rebellion on the Hive World Fell Core. Unknown to them however, was that a Genestealer Cult was behind the rebellion; after Space Marines were brought in to deal with the Genestealers, Seylind and his Regiment participated in the mop up duty of disposing of the remainder of the cult.[1b]

Shortly afterwards, however, Tyranid spores began raining down on the doomed Hive World and Seylind and his Regiment spent the remainder of their time on Fell Core defending Hive Tertius, before it was overwhelmed by the Tyranids. As the Imperium began to evacuate what survivors it could save, Seylind and what was left of his Regiment were evacuated and he watched from orbit as an Exterminatus was launched on Fell Core.[1b]

Four years later he would be moved out of the 35th Octobian and began his training as a Storm Trooper in the StormTroop Assault-core, an experimental specialist regiment of boarding infantry guards, aboard the Imperial Navy vessels of Battlefleet Ultima Secundus, as they patrolled the Ultima Segmentum.[1b]

Years later, he had achieved the rank of Captain and was stationed aboard the Battleship the Enduring Blade when its commander, Lord Admiral Benedil Constantine, received a request for aid from Meyloch Severus, the Planetary Governor of Dolumar IV, requesting aid against an invasion of his world by the T'au. The entire Battlefleet responded[1a] and, once there, the fleet attacked and boarded the Tau warship Or'es Tash'var, in order to capture the ship and the Ethereal Ko'vash (whom the Tau had just freed from a prison complex on Dolumar IV).[1b] During the boarding action Seylind was ordered by Lord Admiral Constantine to take a squadron of Storm Troopers and escort the Techpriests Natsan and Tertius Rolan to the Or'es Tash'var's engine room, so that they could disable them and allow the Battlefleet to capture both the warship and the Ethereal. Seylind led the group as they fought their way through the warship's T'au defenders until they reached the engine room and Seylind had his Stormtroopers guard the Techpriests as they began to disable the engines. As Seylind wondered how disabling the T'au warship would advance his career, the Fire Warrior La'Kais stormed the engine room and killed him, before proceeding to kill all of the Storm Troopers and Techpriests in the engine room.[1b]

In campaign missions 8-9 of the Fire Warrior video game, Storm Trooper Captain Shaeffer escorted a group of Techpriests, led by Techpriest Algeraster, to disable the Tau warship Or'es Tash'var's engines. Like in the novel, they are all killed by La'Kais as he retook the engine room.[2]
