Do we actually need all these miniature pages? I mean, they don't store particularly useful or informative content and many of them are the dead-end pages, meaning that few users will see them anyway. Finally, they store between 1-3 images anyway, so it would be much easier to just shift those images to the content pages. I would strongly suggest deletion for them. The long-term plan is to create a catalogue of all miniatures based on pages like these and to separate the background from the models. By doing so we are not limited to only put one picture in the article and will give collectionists useful information. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum 13:28, 15 November 2011 (CET)

Question

Are the tentative individual unit pages still relevant ? I feel the "one page per race/box" fits the bill of having a picture of every model released in a readable space; when i first looked up this page i was confused that some but only few individual units had their own page, and it also unnecessarily clutters the page.

Knowing the release date and having a catalog reference/picture is nice and all, but it's also a massive undertaking that no one is seemingly ready or interested in tackling anyway. I also feel that if it was ever to be updated, it should have its own section to keep the miniature category short and to the point as a visual reference for every model released. My humble opinion. --Siegfriedfr (talk) 21:02, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Caveat: I do not know which "tentative individual unit page" you are specifically referring to as a) it has been a while since I had a look at the category and b) I have my own plans for the miniatures issue (see below). So my answers might or might not fit your question.
Keep in mind the (English) Lex has been running for 15+ years, so there have been a lot of people coming and going, with often no to little supervision. That means that there are also many non-approved approaches, started and abandoned projects etc. If in doubt always contact me before undertaking anything major.
I have put a lot of thought into the question of miniatures over the years. And here is what will happen eventually. Subject to time availability etc.
There will be a separate (sort of) "namespace" called "Miniatures" (or sth similar).
Every miniature/type will get its own, separate catalogue page.
On these pages all known information (for example sculptors, release dates, model numbers prices with dates (maybe), availability, re-releases, other confirmed notes) will be included in the form of a table.
Pictures will include (as far as available) different angles, individual separate part views, unpainted and painted (official) examples, packaging etc.
Model info will then be removed from the lore articles which will of course contain links to the respective model article (and vice versa).
So in short a organizationwise separate "catalogue section".
Crazy? Yeah, sure. But that has never stopped me before. And technically I do not see why it is not possible.
Big effort? Sure. On the other hand the creation/ research is not more difficult than for most lore articles and procedures should be rather straightforward.
When will this happen? I don't know. First the HELP section has to be completely overhauled (which is being slowly done). After that I have tentatively put the catalogue issue on my mental to-do list. As in: laying the groundwork and establishing the rules and formats governing it. Not as in create the whole back catalogue of GW minis on my own.
So you see your thoughts seem to be not far off from this vision (as far as I can discern. If you wish so, you can put some thought into it and we will create a brainstorm discussion page for later reference.
