Conrad Gerlach was a Chaplain in the Imperial Fists Legion during the Horus Heresy, where he served alongside a veteran Assault Company.^[1]

Although Chaplains did not wear black armor during the Horus Heresy (this tradition appeared later), Conrad Gerlach's armor is nevertheless black, since according to the tradition of the Veteran Assault Company of the Imperial Fists, their armor was also black.^[1]
