Draas the Red Pilgrim is a Dark Apostle of the Word Bearers and was one of Angra Mainyu's three lieutenants.[1]

History

Draas the Red Pilgrim

Draas fought alongside Angra Mainyu against the Ultramarines on the planet Calth during the Horus Heresy. In the aftermath of the battle and the Heresy, Draas attempted to warn Angra to retreat with the rest of the Word Bearers Legion to the Eye of Terror, stressing that he needed to gather his strength before striking out any further, and that Ultramarines reinforcements were en route to Calth. Instead, Angra called him a coward and a weakling, and banished him from his host.[1]

After his banishment, Draas began to form his own host and went preaching to Imperial planets around the Eye of Terror. The choice he gave was simple: renounce the Emperor and embrace the Chaos Gods or die. Draas' host increased slowly but methodically, comprising of not only his Traitor Space Marines, but entire Imperial Guard Regiments and Imperial Citizens as well. He became known as "the Red Pilgrim" to his followers.[1]

Finally, during the 13th Black Crusade, Draas returned and attempted to usurp Angra's position. Much to his surprise, Angra had been transformed into a Chaos Spawn for his failings and was no longer in charge. Taking advantage of this, Draas assumed total command of Angra's host as Dark Apostle.[1]
