Dragonship

A Dragonship is an Eldar space ship of cruiser class. It is not a specific design like most other named vessel classes, but rather is a generic name for Eldar vessels of a larger size. The vessels under the name Dragonship have a similar armament and adhere to the same tactics but can be varied within these classes.

Variants are given their own name within the Dragonship 'class', which is always a variant including 'Dragon'. For example, Dragonships piloted largely or exclusively by Spirit Stones are called Ghostdragons and vessels designed to work far from supply lines are called Void Dragons. Less common variations such as different sail configurations, weapons and even sizes are known to exist, but to a lower numbers.¹

Eclipse

The Eclipse is an Eldar Corsair cruiser which can move rapidly and deploy its fighters in close proximity to the enemy while avoiding incoming fire easily, unlike many other carriers. It carries Darkstar Fighters and Eagle Bombers and is the bane of many convoy captains. The Stardeath destroyed over 28 convoy and military vessels before being destroyed afters it holofields were damaged through a lucky torpedo hit in the Graildark Nebula. The Silent Warrior operated around Port Maw and became notorious after Walpurgis Attack in which the Vigilant was boarded and captured. The Eldar forced the captain to send the all-clear message to a group of undefended Imperial Guard transports which the Eldar then fell upon and destroyed with Eagle Bombers as they left the atmosphere.²

Other known Eclipse class ships include Asuryan's Chosen and Eliarenath's Gift.

Shadow

The Shadow is an Eldar cruiser. It is typical of Eldar capital ships due to the use of large solar sails, providing it with immense speed and manoeuvrability. Often they are seen outrunning the escort vessels of other race. There have been many successful raids and battles with the Shadow class and there are also many famous ones.²

The most famous during the Gothic War was the Black Star commanded by Prince Conanmaol of the Executioners. He destroyed many Imperial capital ships as well as a huge amount of merchant shipping tonnage. It evaded destruction and still launches raids from the Graildark Nebula. Another vessel, the Fhianna Rethol, was the first to be captured relatively intact and was being studied at Argante Station when a flotilla of Eldar vessels attacked and fired a salvo of torpedoes at it, destroying it utterly.²

Famous Shadow class ships include Black Star, Fhianna Rethol, Child of Khaine, Celestial King, Bright Claw and Chariot of Mathurir.²

Wraithship

Eldar Wraithships are formed out of pure wraithbone drawn from the warp. The core is forged out of this material and into it is connected all the systems of the ship as well as being psychically attuned to the frequencies used by the Eldar. This psychic connection allows instant communication and turns the ship almost into a living being in its own right. The outer shell of the ship is also grown and designed to form bulkheads, doors and other physical designs. The wraithbone is forged by a class of Eldar known as Bonesingers, using their psychic powers to mould the growth of the wraithbone into the forms they desire.¹

The pilots and crewmen of these vessels are attuned to the running of the ship and can literally feel the design of the ship. To this end they can trim the sails to perfection to gain the most out of the solar energy the ship runs on. This also allows them to make the legendary manoeuvres which so often allow them to escape incoming fire or gain the best position to attack their enemies.¹

Wraithships are armed heavily with both a Weapons Battery and Pulsar Lance with either Eldar Torpedoes or Eldar Launch Bays with Nightwing Fighters and Phoenix Bombers.¹
