The Farsight Enclaves, known as the Forbidden Zone to the Tau Empire,[7] is an independent Tau entity existing on the Eastern Fringe of the Imperium. Established and ruled by Commander Farsight, it has broken away from the Tau Empire[2a] and refuses any presence of Ethereals within its borders.[5]
History
In the aftermath of the Imperium's abortive Damocles Crusade in 742.M41 a Tau Fire Caste Commander, Shas'o Viorla Shovah Kais Montyr (perhaps better known to Imperials as Commander Farsight), led an expeditionary force to reclaim worlds lost to the Imperium. Battling Ork forces under Grog Ironteef, Farsight chased the Greenskins to Arthas Moloch and encountered a terrifying new foe there that rattled him to the core. In the aftermath of the incident on Arthas Moloch, Farsight refused to return to the Tau Empire despite being ordered to.[2a]
Instead, he consolidated the worlds he had already captured and established a series of fortified outposts in the Forbidden Zone. As more information has come to light the actions of Commander Farsight have become the source of grave concern for certain members of the Inquisition who perceive a distinct threat to the Divine Rule of the Emperor of Mankind.[Needs Citation] Shortly after setting the foundations of the Farsight Enclaves, O'Shovah himself went into a self-imposed exile to wander the wastes of Vior'los.[6]
In 997.M41, the Farsight enclaves were assaulted by a splinter fleet of Hive Fleet Kraken. Farsight himself apparently returned to lead eighty XV8 Battlesuit teams to drive the invaders back.[1a] The Enclaves next fought alongside the Tau Empire against the Imperium during the Second Agrellan Campaign.[8a]
Recently, the Farsight Enclaves had found itself besieged by a large Ork Waaagh! led by the infamous Warboss Nazdreg.[4] Farsight dealt with Nazdreg on Dregrokk, but the Enclaves armies were soon drawn into the Arks of Omen Campaign.[7]
Enclave Information
The colours are the reversed version of the Vior'la Sept ones, the sept where O'Shovah grew up.[5]
- Government Structure
- Millitary Junta (full territory) Elected council (individual planets)[2c]
It should be noted that the Enclaves have diverged from the Empire's culture of preserving the lives of its members by embracing Farsight's belief that martyrdom is the highest expression of service to the Greater Good with the planet Lub'grahl's poles covered in memorial white stones for each life lost under the commander.[2b][2c]
Further cultural divergence from the Empire comes in the form of occupations within the Enclave being accessible to anyone regardless of caste, a notable example is O’vesa who serves on The Eight.[2b][2c]
