Fist of Demetrius by William King is the second novel in the Macharian Crusade novel series. It was released in July 2013.

Cover Description

As the crusade reaches its apex, Lord Solar Macharius is drawn by a prophecy to the world of Demetrius in search of an ancient artefact - the Fist of Demetrius. Rumours and legends abound of the artefact's providence as a weapon of a primarch, the lords of the Horus Heresy. With it, Macharius believes his success and victory is assured but others crave this potent weapon, and the Dark Eldar will do anything to obtain it.

Plot

Ten years have passed since the events on Karsk IV, and Sergeant Leo Lemuel and his crewmates from the Baneblade Indomitable have served in Macharius's bodyguard unit ever since. The crusade has reclaimed hundreds of worlds for the Imperium, and Macharius shows no signs of tiring.

Lemuel and his comrades fight alongside Macharius as he insists on personally leading the assault on the rebellious world of Demetrius, having a special interest. As ever, Macharius's tactical brilliance wins the day, and inside the rebels' temple headquarters, Macharius claims his prize: an ancient power fist, the "Fist of Demetrius," rumoured to have belonged to one of the primarchs during the Great Crusade.

While returning to the crusade's base on Emperor's Glory, Macharius's flagship is pulled from the warp by a warp storm and temporarily stranded in a neighbouring system that has just been conquered by the Dark Eldar Archon Ashterioth.
