Gal'leath Class - Explorer
The Gal'leath was the first ship produced which could easily allow the growth of a Tau empire. While on average, a full factor of five slower than full warp speed, the Gal'leath boasted huge cargo space and transport abilities as well as scientific centres. It could act as a portable dock for other ships and also carry modules for waystations and other orbital units. For nearly 100 tau'cyr it was the only ship in continuous production. It ranged from version I to XXIII but was eventually sentenced to death when encountering Ork space forces. It was not designed as a specialist warship and could not keep Killkroozers and Terrorships at bay. To this end the Il'fannor class was stepped up and when complete, production of the Gal'leath dropped by 85%. Refits of the surviving ships continued however and the two configurations below are the most common.1
Notable Gal'leath class ships include:
- Dal'yth Gal'leath Kessan
- Possibly the last Gal'leath built, has been refitted with Mantas and will lead an expedition to the Farsight Enclave under the direct rule of Aun'shi. Also includes a biologist Por'O Jess'l and many of the holds have been converted to laboratories. Kor'O Kessan, captain, was assigned the ship after surviving an Ork attack on the edge of the Damocles Gulf.1
Gal'leath Vash'ya Configuration
The Vash'ya is the standard pattern for Gal'leath ships and includes railgun batteries, launch bays for Barracudas or Mantas and three Gravitic Hooks which can support Orca Gunships.1
Gal'leath Bor'kan Configuration
The Bor'kan is an experimental pattern which differs by adding a Gravitic Launcher but reduces the number of craft it can carry in its launch bays.1
Or'es El'leath Class - Custodian
The Or'es El'leath is part of the second wave of Tau ships to be developed since the Damocles Crusade. It was recognised that Imperial ships were superior in many ways to the Tau counterparts and as such new ships were developed. The Or'es El'leath is a carrier designed to deploy Barracudas and Mantas which support the rest of the fleet. It also carries up to three Kir'la Class Escorts dedicated to protecting the it. It is armed with Gravitic Launchers, Railgun Batteries, Ion Cannons and several launch bays.2
