The 12th Black Crusade, more commonly known as the Gothic War, started with Abaddon using the cover of some warp storms to land on planets in the Gothic system. Due to these warp storms, the war was isolated, so little help was able to reach the front lines.
During a very important battle, the tide of the war was turned against Abaddon by Lord Ravenburg of the Imperial Navy. This caused Abaddon to accelerate his plans and to reveal his master plot. He intended to steal the Blackstone Fortresses. He succeeded in stealing two of the six known fortresses, but was driven back into the Eye of Terror along with his forces due to a joint Imperial and Eldar attack.
