Guardians are the militia of the Eldar Craftworlds. In times of peace the Guardians pursue their normal civilian roles. All Eldar however are trained in warfare and can be called to arms if their craftworld is threatened. As the number of dedicated warriors - Aspect Warriors - in a craftworld are simply too few, Eldar dedicated to a civilian path serve as Guardians in battle, forming the bulk of the Eldar armies. Guardian forces consist of two main types - the tactically flexible Defenders, and the more assault-oriented Storm Guardians. Both are equipped with mesh armour.

Guardian Defenders

Guardian Defenders are the basic Guardian force, armed with Shuriken catapults. Squads are often accompanied by Grav Platforms carrying heavy weapons, to provide fire support.

Storm Guardians

Storm Guardians are armed with a potent combination of Shuriken pistol and chainsword.

While the basic Defenders are suited to point defense, the Storm squads are better suited to an offensive role. Up to two may be equipped with Fusion Guns to augment their effectiveness against hard targets and add flexibility to strike vehicles and emplacements, or Flamers to increase anti-horde firepower.

Ulthwé Black Guardians

Black Guardians form the bulk of the Ulthwe standing army. They are more highly-trained compared to standard Guardians but are arranged in a similar manner, consisting of both Defender and Storm units. Tactically, they make heavy use of the Webway which allows them to appear anywhere on the battlefield, seemingly emerging from nowhere. Other forces of the Black Guardians include Black Guardian Jetbikes, Vypers, War Walkers and Support Weapon Batteries.
