The Imperio-Cognisticians are a group within the Adeptus Mechanicus that believe that the interpretation of collected data will unravel the mysteries of the Quest for Knowledge.

Overview

This sect of Techpriests believe wholly that the Quest for Knowledge can be as much as a spiritual journey as a physical one. This approach appeals greatly to those too old or too occupied to travel among the stars. To them, the fulfillment of the Quest comes not from venturing across space but from the more mundane everyday tasks such as data-inputting, repairing, Enginseering and a million other similar actions. As such, the Imperio-Cognisticians view the Imperium as one vast supercomputer that is ever processing information that will lead to the completion of the Quest. Such an action is referred to as Divine Processing Routine.

The members of this group are considered traditionalists and are a little too conservative for their own kind. They consider change or upheaval to be unnecessary and as such tend to be static in their actions with only actions such as armed hostility provoking a response from them. Instead, they occupy their time by endlessly embarking on a computing process and do not engage in any activity that would disrupt this action.

The Imperio-Cognisticians see themselves as anti-viruses that work against the Dark Mechanicus forces that allied with Chaos and other xenotic viruses. It is for this reason that they see anything beyond their own technology as contaminated and dangerous to use. The only acceptable change that the members of this sect will accept is upgrading.

Upgrading can vary in an entity as large of the Imperium and can range from conquest to personal acts. Some Techpriests simply add a new memory chip to their brains while others conquer new worlds in order to add to the processing power of the Imperium, and improve the memory of the "supercomputer". While such a change can be made by members of the Imperio-Cognisticians, there does exist the more extreme elements who believe that such actions change the Divine Processing Routine too much and seek to hinder the approaches of their comrades.
