The Laanah Rifts are a mysterious region on the north-west fringes of Segmentum Pacificus, known to many as a benighted area of space that hides many secrets.[3c]

It is known to be situated near the Silent Abyss, the home region of the Silent Forge.[3a]

History

Isolated from Imperial contact since before the Age of Strife, the region was dominated by small anti-Imperial human civilizations and a terrifying xenos species known as the Hellgrammite. From 182-453.M38, the Laanah Rifts were pacified and incorporated into the Imperium in the Bellrath Crusade. At the close of the Crusade, it would be integrated into the Imperium as the Laanah Sector, and multiple Mechanicus factions founded outposts on it's frontiers.[1]

In 981.M41, the Night Reapers Chapter is consigned to the region as penance for their failures during The Constantinus Iconoclasm.[2]

After the Night Reapers are declared Excommunicate Traitoris in 989.M41, the Laanah Rifts would become the site of the Harrowing of the Night Reapers, a three year campaign across dozens of star systems prosecuted by the Minotaurs and Red Templars Chapters, supported by local forces. The Night Reapers are eventually destroyed in the Perun Cross Incident, although the Imperial forces along the Rifts maintain a constant vigil should they return.[2][3b]

Known Celestial Objects

  • Svarga Wells: Site of an Imperial outpost where Night Reapers ambushed a combined force of the Imperial Navy and the Avenging Sons Chapter as they attempted to respond to a distress call put out by the planet.[2]
  • Wormgyre: The former home system of the Hellgrammite xenos race, destroyed by the Sons of Medusa during the Bellrath Crusade.[1]
  • Guyathis Belt: The remains of Rogue Trader Baron Stross Yuen's fleet was found here after being destroyed by the Night Reapers.[2]
