Land Speeders are light anti-gravity vehicles, serving as the primary reconnaissance, scouting, resupply and fast attack vehicles of the Imperial Space Marine Chapters. Land Speeders are based on STC data recovered in M31, and afterwards became widely produced and used throughout the Imperium. Land Speeders were also originally used by the Imperial Guard, but since then the plasma and anti-gravity technologies required to use them have become increasingly rare, and so only extremely resource rich planets or organizations such as Ryza or the Space Marines can afford to create them. As they were rediscovered after the Horus Heresy there are no Land Speeders in Chaos Space Marines armies.

On the battlefield, Land Speeders can be organized into squadrons of up to 3.

Design

Land Speeders have light armour all around and a crew of two Power Armoured Space Marines (with the exception of the Tempest Variant, which have a crew of one pilot and slaved targeting systems).

Armament

The standard Land Speeder mounts a gunner-operated heavy bolter, multi-melta or heavy flamer.

Variants

Tornado

Land Speeder Tornadoes are more heavily armed variants of the standard Land Speeder, mounting a secondary, under-slung heavy flamer, heavy bolter, multi-melta or assault cannon.

Typhoon

Land Speeder Typhoons mount a Typhoon missile launcher in addition to its gunner-operated weapon.

Tempest

The Land Speeder Tempest is fully enclosed, with a single pilot, a fixed-forward assault cannon and twin-linked missile launchers, as well as heavier armor.

Storm

Land Speeder Storms are variants which carry five-man Scout squads, often used to stealthily insert a squad into a vulnerable enemy position where the squad can wreak havoc. They mount a gunner-operated heavy bolter, heavy flamer, multi-melta or assault cannon.
