Wargear

Chaos Hound

Chaos Hounds are followers of some Chaos Space Marine characters. Chaos hounds are very useful when fighting in combat as they are utterly loyal to their master and ferocious in their attacks.1,2

Chaos Space Marine Bike

Chaos Space Marine Bikes are similar in nature to the Space Marine Bike however they have been mutated by the warp. They are armed with various spikes and blades and can be armed with various deadly weapons, although the rider still needs to control the bike as it is not possessed like some other vehicles can be.1

Personal Icon

A Personal Icon is given to a champion of Chaos and is unique to one of the Chaos Gods (Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh or Tzeentch). It is also a prime location for Daemonic summons due to this link.1,2

Spiky Bits

Spiky Bits cover Chaos Power Armour, partially for ornamentation and partially for combat, and include spikes, blades and horns. They are highly effective as the weight of the marine will easily crush enemies beneath them.1,2

Brass Armour of Khorne

The Brass Armour of Khorne is a very heavy set of armour given to Bloodletters.1

Familiar

A Familiar is an assistant to Chaos Sorcerers and Sorcerer Lords, allowing them access to more spells than they can have by themselves, literally pulling the idea from the mind of the familiar when the time comes.1

Special Character Equipment

Fabius Bile

Chirurgeon

The Chirurgeon is a part-magical, part-technological device attached to the spine of Fabius Bile. It provides him with two spider-like arms which go over his shoulders but also pumps black ichor through his body which is charged with the power of the warp and creates a protective ward around him. It has been said both that the Chirurgeon is Bile's life's work and that it works to keep Bile alive.

Abaddon the Despoiler

Mark of Chaos Ascendant

The Mark of Chaos Ascendant is a mark unique to Abaddon, a symbol of the favour he has earned from each of the Chaos Gods. The mark gives him the bonuses of the marks of Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, and Slaanesh. This mark is proof of the fact the gods have a plan for Abaddon, and as such he is immune to Instant Death.

Lucius the Eternal

Armour of Shrieking Souls

The Armour of Shrieking Souls is the same armour Lucius has worn all of his life. It is alive with the souls he has stolen over the thousands of years he has been preying on his enemies. The souls are in permanent anguish and are used to protect the armour from damage, but they can also be released in a wave of psychic anguish to assault his enemies.

Marks of Chaos

Mark of Chaos Undivided

The Mark of Chaos Undivided is a glyph given to a follower of Chaos who devotes him/herself to all four of the Dark Gods.1

When a mortal prays to Chaos Undivided, they must direct their question to the relevant deity. While the prayer may be answered, they are unlikely to receive the power gifted by worship of just one god. He may also honour the lesser spirits of the warp if they are more likely to help him.1

Others view Chaos Undivided as a unified whole, the various powers as actually an aspect of one god. They may give their service to one god but are likely to never gain much favour with an individual power.1

Finally, others seek to use Chaos as a means to get to their own ends. This is often risky and only two outcomes exist, daemonhood or damnation.1

Mark of Khorne

The Mark of Khorne is given to those who follow Khorne and embrace the Chaos god's particular ways. They are fearless and devastating in close combat, often in a blood-crazed frenzy and disdaining any form of ranged warfare. They hate any form of psychic power, seeing it as weakness and are often armed with chainaxes.1

In Dawn of War Khorne Berzerkers can be upgraded with the Mark of Khorne which causes nearby enemies to flee, their morale broken.3.

Mark of Slaanesh

The Mark of Slaanesh is a mark that drives the bearer to fulfil Slaanesh's undying hunger for pleasure. The bearer is addicted to seeking out new pleasures and are often horribly disfigured. The most common bearers of this mark are the Noise Marines of the Emperor's Children.1

Mark of Nurgle

The Mark of Nurgle is given to Nurgle's greatest followers and they become a living host to the powers of death and decay. Units with the Mark of Nurgle are likely to become Plague Marines, gifted with extra bulk, making them much harder to kill. They are horrible to look at and are a bane on all life.1

Mark of Tzeentch

The Mark of Tzeentch is given to the followers of Tzeentch and bestows psychic powers on the bearer. The greatest followers of Tzeentch are the Thousand Sons, bodiless animated piles of armour which have become a constant force, never changing.1

Daemon Weapons

Main article: Daemon Weapon

Daemon Weapons are those which are possessed by a daemon and hunger for the souls and blood of enemies. They often cause the user to go into a bloody rage in order to sate their thirst for blood and occasionally kill their own bearer.

Dark Blade

The Dark Blade is jet black and contains no other marks to blemish its surface. The blade has a perfect darkness although the hilt, pommel and grip are often adorned. The blade feeds on the souls of its enemies and uses this power to force the bearer on to greater acts of savagery in order to sate its appetite.1,2

Dreadaxe

The Dreadaxe contains a vampiric being with a thirst for the souls of other daemons. It is almost inevitable that anyone who opposes this weapon will die quickly. They usually take the form of a highly decorated double-bladed axe1.

Ether Lance

The Ether Lance is a gateway for warp power to surge into the materium and can be highly potent in both combat and at range. Bolts of deadly warp energy leap from the weapon over a wide area or lure enemies into the lance itself, utterly consuming them with warp energy1.

Kai Gun

The Kai Gun was produced by the machine smiths of Kai when the Kai system was absorbed into the Eye of Terror by the warp storm Gae-sann. The smiths bartered their services for a measure of protection from the daemons of the warp and produced the Kai Gun in return. Eventually this deal came to an end when daemons descended on Kai and butchered the population, leaving only the massive, arcane bolter-like weapons as their legacy. The gun is massive and heavy, normally only moveable by two or more men, however a large daemon would have little difficulty with it. It acts as a conduit for the malice and hatred of its firer and melds them into tangible burst of energy.1

Accursed Crozius

An Accursed Crozius is the ritually defiled weapon of a Dark Apostle, the former Chaplains of the Word Bearers Legion. At the time of the Horus Heresy, most Chaplains resisted the lure of Chaos and were slaughtered by their brother Astartes, however the Chaplains of the Word Bearers had the same fervent desire to find objects of worship as their Primarch Lorgar and so willingly turned to the dark devotion of Chaos.1

To prove their dedication of faith to the Dark Gods, the Chaplains corrupted their once-sacred Crozius Arcanum, their badge of office and symbol of the Imperial faith. With such blasphemous actions, the Crozius were blessed with fell powers to show that no servant of the Emperor, even the strongest-willed, is immune to the call of Chaos. In battle, they now serve not only as both weapon and mark of rank, but also a powerful link between the bearer and the warp itself.1

Special and Heavy Weapons

Reaper Autocannon

The Reaper Autocannon is the merging of two Autocannons to form a more accurate but shorter ranged version. They are deployed on Defilers as a default weapon.1

Other Weapons

Hellblade

Hellblades are given by Khorne to Bloodletters. They are warp-forged blades of immense brutality and wicked sharpness.1

Great Weapon

A Great Weapon is a larger and heavier version of a Close Combat Weapon that uses both hands but can be swung with great power. It is used solely by the Chaos Space Marines.1

Special Character Weapons

Fabius Bile

Rod of Torment

The Rod of Torment is a torture device which amplifies the lightest pin-prick to an immensely agonising assault on the body. While it may not ultimately kill someone, it will utterly incapacitate them, preventing them from further active resistance. This weapon is also used by the dark eldar.1

Xyclos Needler

The Xyclos Needler is a gun which fires virulent poison darts, quickly incapacitating anyone whose armour they penetrate.1

Abaddon the Despoiler

Drach'nyen
Drach'nyen is the daemon sword belonging to Abaddon the Despoiler. It is said that a golden-skinned stranger, speculated to be the C'tan Deceiver, led him to it under the Tower of Silence on Uralan and that he had to pass tests given to him by the Chaos Gods in order for him to obtain the sword, a gift to only those who were worthy of their dark powers.

The blade contains the soul of the daemon Drach'nyen who has the power to rend apart reality itself.1
Talon of Horus
The Talon of Horus is a large Lightning Claw, fitted with an early custom-built Storm Bolter that was wielded by the traitor Primarch Horus. After the death of Horus, the Talon was removed from his armour and is now used by Abaddon the Despoiler1, serving as his personal icon. The Blood Angels believe that this claw was used to kill their Primarch, Sanguinius, so when in the presence of the Talon they fight with even more ferocity.

Kharn the Betrayer

Gorechild

Gorechild is a huge chainaxe and is an artefact from the Great Crusade. Its teeth come from the jaws of mica-dragons of the death world Luther McIntyre IX, its haft forged from adamantium and its head is a full three spans across.1

Ahriman

The Black Staff of Ahriman

The Black Staff of Ahriman is a focus for psychic energy and helps Ahriman to cast his sorcerous spells. In a way, the weapon replaces his need for Familiars and Thrall Wizards.

Common Vehicle Upgrades

Unique Vehicle Upgrades

Blasphemous Rune

Blasphemous Rune occurs when the vehicle is painted in the symbols of the Chaos Gods, which unnerve and disturb even the hardiest of troops.1,2

Coruscating Warp Flame

Coruscating Warp Flame produces a flame from gargoyles on the outer hull which are constantly chanting incantations and pausing only to expel warp flames. The vehicle is enveloped with a sheet of warp flame and consumes lightly armed troops easily.1,2

Daemonic Possession

Daemonic Possession seals the vehicle and allows it to run without a crew. The daemonic entity within controls the vehicle totally and is held within by runes and sigils.1,2

Destroyer

Destroyer comes in the form of many spikes, blades, scythes and other highly dangerous pieces of equipment attached to the hull of the vehicle, dramatically improving any form of close combat that vehicle may take part in.1,2

Dirge Caster

The Dirge Caster broadcasts a litany of chaotic verse non-stop. It is often incomprehensible and disturbing to hear to normal people, however the followers of Chaos are dramatically taken in by the sounds, driving away any form of doubt or uncertainty about the coming battle.1,2

Havoc Launcher

Havoc Missile Launchers were the precursors of both the Cyclone Missile Launcher now used by Space Marine Terminators and the immense Havoc Missile Rack sported by the Banelord Class Chaos Titans. Due to their size they were not man-portable, and restricted to use on vehicles. Since the escape by the Traitor Legions into the Eye of Terror, technology has advanced enough to allow the introduction of the Cyclone, but leaving the isolated Chaos Space Marines only able to use them on their vehicles and Dreadnoughts as the Imperial forces would use Hunter-Killer Missiles.1,2,4

Living Vehicle

Living Vehicle provides blades, tentacles and other living offensive weapons which allow the vehicle to strike anything close to it as the limbs lash out.1,2

Mutated Hull

Mutated Hull alters the hull of the vehicle to include spikes, gargoyles and arcane symbols which reform whenever the vehicle is hit. This makes the vehicle a lot harder to destroy.1,2

Parasitic Possession

Parasitic Possession occurs when a vehicle is possessed by a daemonic parasite of Nurgle. The daemon literally becomes part of the vehicle. To a certain extent the vehicle is damaged by the parasite, although because of the possession by the daemon, the vehicle gains a degree of self-repair abilities.1,2

Plague Carrier

Plague Carriers have smoking censers which release gasses which have a similar effect to Nurgle's Rot.1,2

Warp Amp

The Warp Amp amplifies emotions and sensations by projecting warp energy from pipes and tubes in the vehicles hull for the betterment of allies and detriment of enemies. This is very effective when used on basic infantry.2
