Techmarine Martellus[1]

Martellus was a Blood Ravens Techmarine who served aboard the Strike Cruiser Armageddon.[1]

History

Martellus assisted Sergeant's Aramus's strike force during the Aurelian Crusade, providing them with intelligence on their enemies, and later leading a large group of survivors to the surface of Typhon Primaris when the Armageddon was overwhelmed in orbit by the Tyranids. Martellus piloted a Thunderhawk in support of Aramus but did not make it to the battleground and was presumed missing in action.[1]

A year later, during the Second Aurelian Crusade, Martellus was discovered sending a distress signal from an Astronomic Array not far from the site of the final battle with the Tyranids. He claimed to have been battling his way there, wounded and with minimal ammunition for the majority of the past year. He once more helped Aramus by providing critical data on the sub-system and helping to identify the traitor in the midst of the Blood Ravens.[2]

Ten years later, Martellus was among the Blood Ravens fighting with Gabriel Angelos against the majority of the Chapter, which had been corrupted by Chaos.[3]

Canon ambiguities

During Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising, Martellus is one of the five characters who may turn out to be the traitor among the Blood Ravens, depending on how the game is played. If the player completes the majority of the game with all squads "Pure", Martellus is the only character in the game that can be identified as the traitor. He then attacks the player on the surface of Aurelia with a heavily modified Chaos Predator tank.[2]

However, Martellus reappears in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Retribution, indicating that, canonically, he was not the traitor.[4]
