Miral (sometimes also known as Miral Prime)[3] was a death world located in the Ultima Segmentum.

It was covered predominantly in harsh jungles, though one other notable feature was the rocky mesa known as the Giant's Coffin, which featured an outpost of the Scythes of the Emperor Space Marine Chapter[1][6b]

The local human population was composed mostly of savage troglodytes who lived on the rocky plateaus. Neophyte Hwygir of the Scythes of the Emperor claimed such heritage.[2]

The Second Tyrannic War

After the destruction of their home world Sotha in 993.M41[2], the remaining Marines of the Scythes of the Emperor evacuated to the Miral System.[6a] Initially the evacuees intended to simply resupply at the Chapter's outpost on the planet before moving on to a more defensible position; however, when Chapter Master Thorcyra arrived at the muster, he declared that they would instead establish a new fortress-monastery on Miral and make it their main base of operations.[6c]

Unfortunately, the tyranids of Hive Fleet Kraken followed the Scythes to the Miral System and attacked them once again. The Marines became trapped on Miral and made their last stand.[2][5] Under the command of Thorcyra, they fortified the Giant's Coffin and defended it against the xenos invaders. However, they suffered catastrophic losses and the few survivors were forced to retreat and leave the planet to the victorious Tyranids.[2]

The Scythes mustered all their remaining forces for the last stand. These included:[1]

It is estimated that less than a single Company escaped from Miral.[4] In the aftermath of the evacuation, Miral was subjected to Exterminatus by the Battle Barge Heart of Cronus.[6e]
