Nalwood were a type of tree native to the planet Tanith prior to its destruction by the forces of Chaos in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade.[1a][1b][2b]

Description

Nalwood were evergreens[1b][2b] notable for being motile; they would move in order to receive as much sunlight as possible. The natives of Tanith were known for their unerring sense of direction as a result of navigating nalwood groves.[1a][1b][2a] Nal-grubs live in the soft bark of nalwood trees.[2d]

Tanith Pipes, a traditional musical instrument on Tanith, were developed partly as a method of guiding outsiders through the shifting nalwood forests.[2a]

Uses

Nalwood was a common export from Tanith. Since Tanith's destruction, nalwood has become a rarer resource, the price of the lumber has skyrocketed throughout the Imperium. Thus it has become something of a luxury.[Needs Citation]

Nalwood has a variety of uses, being the common stock of the lasguns used by the Tanith First and Only before the destruction of Tanith.[2c] Its strength also makes it a solid material for building coffins and unaugmented prosthetics.[Needs Citation]

Curiously enough, Nalwood has also been used as the material of psycho reactive weapons, such as the Force Staff formerly wielded by the Librarian Sarpedon, Chapter Master of the Soul Drinkers.[Needs Citation]

In addition, the fruit of the nalwood tree (called nal-fruit) is edible.[2e]
