From Lexicanum

A plasma gun is a Plasma Weapon used by the Imperium to devastating effect. Aesthetically they appear to be stubby and rather clunky, with a ribbed back and a hydrogen flask sticking out of the butt of the weapon. Handheld plasma guns can be found throughout the Imperial war machine, from the mighty Imperial Guard to the elite Space Marines.

Chaos Space Marines are also known to use Plasma Guns, and the Tau make use of a similar, if more stable, version in their Plasma Rifle, Pulse Rifle, Pulse Carbine, and Burst Cannon.
