Without warning, an Ork Waaagh!, led by Warboss Ghazghkull Thraka, invaded the planet and quickly destroyed a large part of the Imperial Guard Regiment stationed there. With no organized force left to stop them, the Orks attacked Procon Secundus' capital and overwhelmed the defenders there. As the capital fell apart around them, a group of the planet's Adeptus Arbites managed to hold off the Orks long enough; to allow a surviving Astropath to send out a message for aid, before they were all cut down.[1a]
It was not in vain however, as the Howling Griffons Chapter, heard their plea for aid and quickly sent out a taskforce to the planet. Unfortunately, violent Warp Storms impeded their progress and it was several weeks before they reached Procon Secundus. During that time the Orks, had separated into separate warbands and began hunting down and attacking the remaining population. Just as the people of Procon Secudus' faith in the Emperor began to wain, the Howling Griffons finally arrived and launched themselves at Ghazghkull Thraka's hordes. The Howling Griffons destroyed the invading Orks in a series of battles[1a], that ended their threat and saved what remained of the planet's population.[1b]
