History

The Ravagers were active by the 930's M41 when they carried out a number of brutal hit-and-run attacks on planets and merchant convoys in an unidentified subsector in the Ultima Segmentum.[1a]

In 937.M41, they were unexpectedly caught in a pincer between an Imperial Navy Fleet and a Tau colony world in the Salomine system. They took heavy casualties before escaping into the Warp. Their projected destination was the planet Adumbria.[1a]

Arriving in system, their fleet took heavy losses from the Imperial Navy flotilla in orbit, before several of their forces made groundfall.[1b][1c] Several attacks were spearheaded by Chaos Space Marines of the World Eaters Legion, but were repelled by Imperial Guard regiments from the Valhallan Ice Warriors and Tallarn Desert Raiders.[1d][1e]

It was not until after the initial attacks that the Imperial forces realized that they were caught in between rival Chaos forces; the Ravagers were not invading the planet, as much as they were trying to disrupt the activities of a Slaaneshi cult on the planet, trying to summon a Daemon from the Warp. Colonel Regina Kasteen of the Valhallan 597th made several important observations, including that the Ravagers' troops were heading for the sites of cultist rituals, and extrapolated the location of the final ritual site.[1f]

Apparently coming to the same conclusion, the Ravagers teleported a force of World Eaters to an oceanic dredger where the final ritual was taking place. A Valhallan force, led by Commissar Ciaphas Cain, happened to be attacking at the same time, and they were able to follow as the Chaos Marines smashed through the cultists' defenses.[1g] The last of the Traitor Marines was killed by the freshly-summoned Emeli Duboir, but Cain and the Valhallans were able to send her back to the Warp.[1h][1i] Elsewhere on the planet, the Ravagers were successfully defeated and all members of their ground invasion were killed.[1j]

However, the Ravagers survived their defeat on Adumbria, and reappeared in the Blood Crusade. At the time, they fielded 8 Blood Hosts.[2]
